Only the strong survived this week in local politics without at least some minor damage. While nobody came out looking as good as Louise Glover in a recent muscle mag photo shoot, there were definitely some winners in Kansas City this week. Let's take a look.
POLITICOS
1. Beth Gottstein - This Council Lady made news across the nation and proved to be the most effective, Progressive leader in Kansas City as of late.
2. Jan Marcason - Mayor Funky gave this lady the boot from two important Council Committees this week and NOT ONLY DID HER CAMPAIGN DONATIONS SPIKE but she also earned the support of her constituents and colleagues.
3. Crispin Rea - This young Latino Politico and Kansas City, Missouri School Board Member was instrumental in working toward ethics reform at the District which has JUST PASSED. A great many people are expecting good things from the guy and he has ALREADY started to deliver.
4. Jason Kander - A few people have noticed the Kansas City politico taking important meetings around the metro. The State Rep. is probably raising campaign cash and making even more important connections.
5. Bill Skaggs - The Mayor is so afraid of a strong male figure that he won't dare take on this seasoned Missouri political veteran.
NEWSIES
1. Russ Ptacek - He broke news of a BIG STORY which revealed uranium on the WRONG SIDE of the Bannister Fed Complex. His reporting on this story has been the strongest in Kansas City.
2. DeAnn Smith - Kansas City's hardest working lady newsie is now part of a powerful local team with KMBC's Michael Mahoney.
3. Sylvia Gross - A fantastic radio interview with Yahaira Carrillo provided a some strong insight into a local angle of the Arizona immigration ruckus.
4. Don Harman - He crashed his chair and the "epic fail" made a great many crack up.
5. Hearne Christopher - He's really been coming up with some great stuff on KCC as of late and writing for his blog has been a welcomed respite from you d-bags.
PEOPLE
1. Lali Garcia - Still going strong in her early 80's as La Raza Political Club Lead Organizer, she was instrumental in lobbying The City Council before their rebuke of Arizona Hate Law.
2. Susanna Lee - We heard that Lucky Deluxe had yet another awesome neo-burlesque show at The Conspiracy Room. She's doing stand-up across the nation and this local performer is definitely on the upswing.
3. Byron Funkhouser - He claims to be the Mayor's brother and he wrote a passionate letter about his life that has garnered the attention of quite a few media people.
4. Kevin Battle - With dress code changes announced today. There is a slight chance that he might have disarmed so many complaints against the P&L District as the NAACP convention approaches.
5. Ernest Jones - He's setting up crosses this Memorial Day weekend to draw attention to so many metro homicides. It's yet another powerful statement that deserves attention from all of Kansas City.
As always, this list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's the strongest guide to local powerful people.
very nice.
ReplyDeletePuttin Hearne in there because maybe because you kinda sorta work for him?
ReplyDeleteDutch Newman runs this town.
ReplyDeleteHearne? Tony, please!
ReplyDeleteBeth for Mayor!
ReplyDeleteBeth would be better than most pf the scum!
ReplyDeleteBill Skaggs is a tough dude. Probably he and Deb are the only two people the mayor truly fears... except Gloria makes that three. Does TKC count as a person?
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:13 pm -- you sound like you think she would only be marginally better?
ReplyDelete"Jason Kander - A few people have noticed the Kansas City politico taking important meetings around the metro. The State Rep. is probably raising campaign cash and making even more important connections."
ReplyDeleteMost people with any brains know that Kander gets his money from a rich uncle. Who cares. He is scum.
Hey, what are you running here, Provda? I did a search on Beth on Google and found nothing outside of KCMO in the past two years! I guess I need to list this link as FANTASY.
ReplyDeleteByron Funkhouser,
ReplyDeleteThis was not a good week for your brother. Just what is his and his wife's relationship with your mother, Ruth Funkhouser?
In a few days the Legislative Council Meeting for May 27, 2010 will be posted. Deb Hermann stood up and offered a resolution in support of your brother's latest punching bag, Councilwoman Jan Marcason. She was removed from ALL committees because...? I think because she tried to get demented gloria squitiro to take her literally raggedy ass out of city hall. (honestly, the clothes she wears. The lacy, purple tent dress should have remained a table cloth) The resolution, after many heartfelt and funny comments passed unanimously. Yes, Mark must have peed in his pants. This was your brother's much needed slap down.
Keep speaking out. The circle of violence ends when you step forward into the public light.
Sorry. look at

video of meetings
It's not exactly Tony the Mayor fears, it's that Tony will unabashedly publish things by the mayor's enemies... he probably knows some of them who have planted adverse stories here, but possibly not all.
ReplyDeletePowerful men must beware of those who they don't know are enemies, and they can be the most careful at disguising their identities.
Et tu, Brute?
Oh well, men in power most assuredly live on the edge. The ultimate chess game where you're the king and everybody you know is just a piece on your board of life.
I know, I know. I watch too many movies.
We DO Not need to keep the E-tax.
ReplyDeleteThe reason KCMO is down the toilet is because of our city government.
I'm not going to keep giving the City more of my money to throw away.
The City is going down the toilet because of the politicians.
Beth? Come on ...she hasn't done squat.
ReplyDeleteNothing, zip, zero, ziltch.
Or (if you prefer, Tony) ...NADA.
Anon 11:59 pm -- she has done tons for this city.
ReplyDelete8:45, I wouldn't say tons. No one can handle that much booze and pills.
ReplyDeleteHey Anon 8:45...
ReplyDeleteBeth has done "tons for the City"?
Can you name a few pounds?
Huh? ...can you?
Can you?
I am always curious about those who rail against the e-tax . . . where do they expect the City to replace the revenue from?
ReplyDeleteI am not committed to an e-tax, but people complain the City does not do enough, cuts services, etc. -- then argue for cutting taxes as a response. This makes no sense. It costs money to fix streets, run the jail, etc. Do you wan the City to stop? If not, where do you expect the money to come from if not an e-tax?
Name one thing she hasn't done!

ReplyDelete3:32- I don't think she's done meth or coke. I hear she sticks to stuff like Zanex,Valium,Clonopam, assorted antidepressants and the like.
ReplyDeleteAnon 1:18 pm - what is the basis of your allegations?
