More Charges in Tutera Murder

While pushback from TKC readers say that this murder wasn't "high society" I notice that The (near) Plaza address is getting more media coverage than most local killings.

The Star: UMKC student charged in shooting death of businessman Michael Tutera

Dear Mr. Tony: Thanks for your postings on Tutera murder. Case is still developing and we must await results of investigation--thanks for not doing what most of the rest of the city's journalists/bloggers did; ie, frantically start pushing the idea that he was murdered by a business associate/family member due to financial problems. For those "slow to take hints" lots of people around town in positions of power would welcome the idea that his killing was not a robbery/burglary "stranger murder." Cities that start having lots of "stranger murders" quickly start losing conventions, businesses, residents, etc--and end up like East Saint Louis. (No disrespect to that fine town!!) So, let us await the investigation--KCMO's journalists have no need to disgrace themselves on this case the way that the national press corps disgraced themselves on the Times Square bombing attempt--in that case the national media frantically seized every straw it could to claim that the bomber was a "lone, deranged psycho" rather than a terrorist. Sincerely, Respectfully and In Christ, Ernest Evans

Police said they received a 911 call around 1:30 a.m. Thursday from someone who said something suspicious had happened -

Yeah, his garage door was up, in violation of gated community rules.

  3. Irony: Well then I guess he deserved it.

    Stupid fuck.

  4. - frantically start pushing the idea that he was murdered by a business associate/family member-

Well, his now widow did serve a 90 day suspended sentence for assaulting him and related property damage. Perhaps she's sweating it out in a KCPD interview room right now.

    Charge/Judgment
    Description: Assault { Ordinance RSMo: Not Available }

Dear Anonymous: It may well be a family/business associate was behind the murder--these things happen too!! I am just saying that right now in KCMO, with the city having lost its three biggest conventions last year, there are going to be a lot of people wanting to believe that it was not a robbery/burglary gone bad--violence of that nature in upscale sections of town scares off conventions worse that reports of Ebola in town. Let us allow the investigation to unfold before we rush to judgment--in my native South it was the KKK that believed in "swift justice" without any "legal nicetiies." Sincerely, REspectfully and In Christ, Ernest Evans

  6. These kids have to be in this year's Top 10 Dumbass Criminals list.

The homeowner saw the guy and called the cops, but the guy gets away and then he hooks up with his buddies at Loose Park and comes back to the same house a few hours later.

The world definitely doesn't need these genes surviving another minute.

Execute all of them before they have kids. Or just cut off their balls and give 'em life.

  7. I'm just amazed at all the wisdom in these comments. At least NONE of you should run for school board!

  8. So much more to this whole mess. Hendrix's mother was Tutera's estranged wife's best friend. Who knows what brought it all down, but sure doesn't smell right. Imagine there are going to be a lot more people charged in his death. I feel for the Tutera family.

  9. So weird, Tony. First people don't want the cops doing checkpoints in the ghetto...too much attention. And now they're not getting as much attention as an unusual whodoneit on KC's society row.

Vewwwy Stwange! Now the Latinos want a piece of the murder handwringing before cameras, as if that's worked for Ad hoc in cutting the hell hole killings.

This town seems like a really bad soap opera that needs to be cancelled.

  10. Only investigate if the killers are white.

  11. " I feel for the Tutera family."

I'm not sure why. Did you feel for them when Michael filed lawsuits against them? They probably wrote him off long ago.

Now there will be comments (probably with spelling errors) about how kind and generous the family was, but come on-have you ever known a bank or nursing home operator that didn't put their own interests first?

It's funny, if there was ever a time and place for Tony to unleash the elitist and entitlement posts, it's now, to describe what goes on behind those gates of 5300 Sunset.

  12. I wonder of most of the divisive racist talk isn't really about race at all about just class warfare.

Jealousy by the have not's against the haves. And fear by the haves because the have nots are working the system overtime to get some of that wealth.

I think a lot of this has come because of mobility and television. Now the poor can see what they're missing out on every night on TV and down on the plaza. Poor people didn't go to the plaza when they had to spend a dime to take the streetcars across town.

For the record, minorities arent the only dumb ones. There are some dumb ass white people whose kids will amount to nuthing because their parents were stupid.

It's about education and values. Poor children can be lifted out but their parents have to want it and be diligent about it and have better ideas than THEIR parents did. And two parent families. And stressing education and career planning. And values.

And yes, it doesn't hurt to get away from the bad influences. Changing playgrounds and playmates is important...to get the kids away from the morons. That takes work and two incomes, and I don't mean checks from the government.

At least these things have been my observations. No guarantees even at that. Plenty of white kids in designer shoes and nice cars will amount to nothing because they didn't have the winning ingredients, or it just didn't take.

Daughters of sharecroppers CAN get doctorates and make six figures. Sons of Depression coal miners CAN become engineers, especially on the GI Bill. It takes some work though.

Behaviorist BF Skinner thought children's major life patterns were established by age seven.

  13. What does all this have to do with Michael Tutera?

He and his now widow didn't even go to college, had six figure federal tax liens, sued each other and family members at the drop of a hat, had some domestic violence issues that were more stereotypical of the ghetto and was being evicted from his home.

By some accounts his parents were intelligent, thoughtful and generous-so what happened here?

Any first semester psych class explanations?

  14. It's difficult to believe that anyone as beautiful as Sonya would have anything to do with this kind of violent crime. We know this was not a random act by a stranger but everyone needs to let the authorities finish their investigation before casting insults and accusations. I wont believe that Sonya or any family member had anything to do with this unless it's proven beyond a doubt. Sonya and Michael were married for several years and even if the marriage had problems or was over, she has to be feeling the pain of loosing someone who was very close. My heart goes out to Sonya and the rest of the Tutera family.
