So, after catching the tail end of the Deb Hermann campaign kickoff . . . What I gathered was simple . . . In less than a week of campaigning:
COUNCIL LADY DEB HERMANN HAS RAN AWAY WITH ALL OF MAYOR FUNKY'S NORTHLAND SUPPORT!!!
While Dave Helling is busy working his way around final cut pro . . . Let's look at the list he compiled of notable attendees at the Hermann kickoff
-- Bill Skaggs, Mayor pro tem (Mark Funkhouser's top two council appointees are now actively opposing him)
-- Meg Conger, Parks board
-- Ed Wolf, Funkhouser's former chief of staff
-- Chuck Weber, former councilman
-- Ken Bacchus, former councilman
-- Tim Kristl, lawyer, former Parks board
-- Jim Bergfalk, consultant
-- Scott Burnett, Jackson County legislature
-- Russ Johnson, councilmember
-- Ed Quick, former state legislator
I've highlighted the folks I talked to . . . Here's a money quote from Council Dude Bill Skaggs:
"I'm going to be putting all of my effort into supporting Deb. She is someone working in City Government who is knowledgeable and wants to work for neighborhoods."
I was shocked that Former Mayor Funkhouser Chief of Staff was in attendance . . . He was nice enough to chat for a bit and was even more adamant about his support for Hermann.

Ed Wolf:
"Of course I support Deb. She is a great person and a very gifted leader. I think her heart is in the right place and she will make a fine Mayor. There is a need to fix the mess we currently have at City Hall. I want to help fix that mess."
Council Dude Russ Johnson also gave his blessing but didn't have much to say on the record.
Overall the crowd was enthused and I like the homespun aspect of her campaign kickoff. Hermann really does have a connection to her community and so many neighbors, friends and family coming out to support her speaks to this fact.

Nevertheless, I was about the 10th person to make the joke about Hermann's lawn turning into Rockfest II following the gathering. I thought it was funny, nobody else did. Natch.
She reminds me of Marge Simpson's sisters.
ReplyDeleteBe my mother lover.
ReplyDeleteThat would be HAS RUN, not HAS RAN.
ReplyDeleteLooks like she lives in suburban hell.
ReplyDeleteUp here in god's Country we call it Gracemor.
a few snarks just call it Worlds of Fun Estates.
Either way you go it's a still a shithole.
So Hermann, Skaggs and Wolf say there is a mess in City Hall that needs to be fixed. Interesting. The foxes going to fix the chicken house.
ReplyDeleteDeb does have her heart in the right place. I hope she makes it into the general election. I hope we have 2 strong candidates this go round.
ReplyDeleteGracemor is a very respectable middle class neighborhood. 2:04, you need to get out more.
ReplyDeleteugly as hell house
ReplyDelete2:48, do you have any idea what you are talking about or are you basing your assessment on a fuzzy picture of a saturated lawn that just had 100 people trampling on it? The 4000 + neighbors who live in Gracemor - myself included - believe she has a lovely house. And the "shithole" neighborhood to which you refer are hardworking respectable people in a middle class neighborhood. Do you live in a mansion? Would you prefer she live in a mansion and then try to represent our City? I know you are trying to shame her - for whatever reason - but saying nasty things about her house is quite unfair. If you don't like her politics, feel free to discuss, but calling our neighborhood a "shithole" says all that we need to know about you.
ReplyDelete2:20 winner,winner,chicken dinner!
ReplyDeleteI think Ed Wolf is kinda cute.
ReplyDeleteWin, Deb, win!
A couple of grand into an appearance make over (hair - makeup - clothes)and upgraded press conference locations - Deb could win. She's sincere and knowledgable. And yes...Gracemoore is a shithole BUT it shouldn't disqualify her. I would worry re western coridor benefactors however... they may think that the rollout at the home was a little quirky.
ReplyDeleteI would bet that the house is paid for. That would be smart with money.
ReplyDeleteC'mon having been to Gracemor a million times I think that was a good guess as to where the house was at.
ReplyDeleteIt's half ok and half white trash.
Drive through there sometime and you'll see one well kept house right across the street from a HUD house that hadn't been kept up in 20 years and every other house on some streets have no grass but has 3 junk cars sitting in the driveway and all sorts of trash laying out on the curbs that they don't have.
If she's such a promising mayoral candidate why does Gracemor look like a low rent neighborhood in Northeast.
ReplyDeleteShe can't even lead her neighborhood out of trashiness, let alone lead K.C.
Gracemor is hardly low-rent. And if Deb hasn't mortgaged her house for 2.5 times what it's worth, then she is smarter than Funk.
ReplyDeleteDeb had led her neighborhood... it has improved much since she moved in and began working as an advocate. She has since been a terrific advocate for the city... she's got my vote.
I am a person who lived in Deb's "Shit Hole" neighborhood for a number of years. It may not be swanky, but the majority of us (over 50) have paid off our houses and as Deb's grandpa said, "owe a dime to no man". I would rather have a person who lives a simple life in charge of my tax dollars than one who lives and spends beyond their means. As for Marge Simpson's sister's--Everybody loves those girls--that's why they've been such successful public figures for over 20 years. GO DEB!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell that was easy.
ReplyDeleteIt only took a few hours to find out what buttons to push without burning up any fossil fuel.
Good job everyone.
you all are stupid. I'm voting for Jonas!
ReplyDeleteWho is Jonas and what has he done for KCMO?
ReplyDeleteI was raised in Gracemor, rasied my family in Gracemor. It is a very neighbor friendly place to live. I have since moved to another northland neighborhood and it is full of people who will not even wave or say hi to you. I have had cars broken into and vandalisim in this more upscale neighborhood. Never had an ounce of trouble in the 40 years I was in Gracemor. A part of me wishes I had stayed in Gracemor. Oh and I will support Deb in every way possiable.
ReplyDeleteWhat else is Deb qualified for in the private sector? Neighborhood assn member doesnt pay well.
ReplyDeleteComments from Gracemore residents tells me all I want to know even if they are reponding to random bloggers. I cant really tell the diff.
ReplyDeleteEd and the gang all supported the Co-mayors for mayor last time. Lack of judgement or are they stupid? Can we rely on there judgement again. I really dont think so.
ReplyDelete8:08, with Deb's consensus building skills and knowledge of budgets, not to mention good old common sense and hard work combined with exceptional ethics, she is qualified to do just about anything.
ReplyDeleteI am giving Ed Wolf credit for coming out for Deb. He made a mistake last time, just as did a majority of the KCMO voters. Hopefully enough people will follow his lead, admit they goofed, and elect a real mayor this time. Vote for Deb!
Nice to see the Deb supports astroturf the comments here.
ReplyDeleteDeb supporters, that is.
ReplyDelete9:07 you didnt really say what Deb might do in the private sector?
ReplyDeleteHer yard looks like the parks. When are you all going to realize that she hass been on the City Council for the last 8 years, she took the city to hell it is in. The current mayor is a mess, but he is still one vote, check it out, she has her name on most, if not all of the current disasters. From lurch, to pit bull. perfect.
ReplyDeleteDeb builds consensus with a meat axe.
ReplyDeleteIs that Skaggs whispering in her ear? Nothing new there.
ReplyDeleteScaggs is a hillbilly just like the Co-mayors. Remember he didnt have a problem sueing his own city. Was it his allegience to the Co-mayors or his dedication to KC. Im confused! What was the result? Council business should be real interesting in the interim until the election.
ReplyDeleteA councilwoman, surrounded by councilmen and insider contract consultants, endorsed by the former chief of staff of Mayor Funkhouser, wants to "clean up city hall"?
ReplyDeleteAnother candidate. More of the same.
