KCPD Doesn't Maintain Their Website But They Demand Your Papers Are Straight

For weeks now the KCPD Contact page on their website has been down . . . I've blogged about and I received really nice replies from good people who suggest that I tell them before I publish anything. That's not exactly the way this blog thing works.

When I read about DUI crackdowns I don't have much sympathy for drunks . . . However, now that KCPD is making daylight checkpoints part of their repertoire I just hope that they have a bit of mercy and understand just as they well-funded team of experts has trouble maintaining their website, the average person driving to work might face difficulty making sure their driving papers are straight at every moment.

I tend to think the important and life saving work the KCPD does in working to thwart violent offenders in Kansas City is one of the highest callings in this town. However, there is an instinct in our society and across the world that believes surveillance against ordinary people is an integral part of community policing despite the fact that societies have been able to live peacefully throughout history without computer spying or checkpoints on every block.

Officials in charge of checkpoints might want to consider that just as KCPD is having trouble with their website, so might regular folks find themselves without every bit of paperwork on them at all times. I'm not advocating clemency for all forgetful drivers, just consideration. As of late, cable TV News Pundits are pushing for merciless crackdowns on people without their papers and all kinds of reactionary forces believe that documentation is more important than social justice . . . I disagree.

  1. Having a drivers license (required to drive) isn't the same as having a website.

    Apples and oranges.

  2. YKC you are an idiot - maintaining a web site is not a priority for any police dept...

  3. Totally T. Laws should not have to apply if the police can't maintain a website. I am going to rob a liquor store tonight and if I get caught I am going to simply say "well, you aren't keeping your web site functional!" No court would convict me.

  6. Go to KCPD.org click on "Contact us." You'll get a 404 error. ----

Go to the Office of Community Complaints Click on "TO file a complaint with the Office of Community Complaints click OCC."

It takes you back to the first page.----

The Board of Police Commissioners is out of date. With no email address or way to contact them

Try to email someone. Good luck.

It's a slow crappy website. The Chief said to counsel-man Sharp he had a process in place to handle community complaints. I'd like to know what it is?

  8. "YKC you are an idiot - maintaining a web site is not a priority for any police dept..."

Yeah like what right does the public have to know about the homicide rates, robbery, sexual offenders, how to pay for a ticket, how to report a crime, where the nearest patrol station is etc. The public doesn't need information like that.

  9. I emailed Chief Corwin using the link on his blog 2 weeks ago asking if the KCPD would step back up and enforce the speed limit on 169 highway from I-29 to downtown because everyone seems to think it's o.k. to do 70+ mph and I haven't got a reply yet.

I guess the answer is no.

  10. One of my favorite comments is when I cite the state constitution's bill of rights and a cop says "They don't pay me enough to be a lawyer."

Like, the government says we should know the statute in order to obey them, but they're not paid enough to know them to ENFORCE THEM. Or better, to know PRECISELY where their police powers END (the US and state Constitutions and the case law limiting their ability to push citizens around!!)

Aren't we glad MAST knows more about treating the injured than police know about civil rights????

Sorry to SPAM you but this site is only about SPAM when Tony himself doesn't do it.

Here's a 45 minute youtube page seen by more than 2 million fellow readers on how to survive a police stop. Sure taught ME a few things.

  13. HowEVER did we get along and contact the police with complaints, comments or concerns before the internet?

The sky is falling, the sky is falling....this must be the end of the world. We can't go ON unless this issue is fixed IMMEDIATELY. Trolls cannot contact the police dept online....they must not know to interact with other people 'live'!

Yes, it should work. Apparently, it doesn't. There are alternatives, people!

  14. Most of KCPD's website budget was used to renovate Arrowhead. The rest was spent by Chief Corwin when he bought all the officers ice cream.

  15. "HowEVER did we get along and contact the police with complaints, comments or concerns before the internet? "

Sure like you won't use 911 to call the police or Mast,,,, but wait how did we call the police before 911? ... and so forth.

I'll use the Internet you can go back to the pony express.

  16. I have an absolute right to drive without having the documentation these crooked politicians and policeman demand of me!

  17. The police website is very outdated. Some of the pages have not been updated for nine months. Much of the information is just plain incorrect.

  18. I've emailed the police department on several occasions and never got a response.

  19. You'll get faster response time by calling the dispatcher. I doubt they check their email when the phone's ringing.

  20. So if you need to talk to alarm permits you call 911 ????

  21. Tony, you suck..

  22. In an age of social media, where the world is going global and is interconnected,it's only fitting that the KC police would be the last to join.
