I don't ever want to hear d-bags talk about "journalism" again.
The story with the most local reaction online as of late is a tale of a disgruntled Hooters waitress from Detroit with an ass too big according to her boss.
The story is blowing up on Facebook and the story is obviously getting a lot of play on the KMBC website.
Check out video of the report and you'll even see the delightful DeAnn Smith scrolling through a bevy of online comments about the subject.
This is the kind of "local" news that people want and it doesn't have anything to do with facts or issues that impact this town . . . It's simply an opportunity for dimwits with an opinion to grab some media face time . . . Which is kinda why blogging started. Go figure. Media folks with real insight have figured out how to take advantage while newspaper people stubbornly believing that people want to read "reporting" continue to face layoffs. Natch.
So I guess you consider yourself media folk with real insight?
ReplyDeleteTony only has insight into boobs. It's not a marketable skill but mildly entertaining.
ReplyDeleteCan someone please post a picture of her? I keep seeing the story, but no picture of her body.
ReplyDeleteAs a former Hooters manager, here is the real deal. Hooters went through all this in the mid 90s. The EEOC granted them special status for the position of "Hooters Girl." Appearance and gender are "Bonafide Occupational Qualifications." The image of the Hooters Girl is the image of the company. As such not maintaining their appearance is failing to maintain a key condition of employment. It is like a taxi driver letting his license expire. There is no worse part of the job than having to have one of these conversations. The uniform is not flattering to some body types and sending a girl out who looks like a hot mess is bad for her and the business.
Ok, I just saw her pictures and that girl needs to STFU. The idea is to look fit. That girl has a bigger spare tire than I do. I'm sorry that you got a job based on your appearance and since you let your body go you may lose it. Welcome to the world of the other 95% of us who will never get a job based on our good looks.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the Chris Farley/ Patrick Swayze Chippendales sketch on SNL.
