So, all of the ruckus over a "Gringo Mask" isn't going to help anyone thwart SB 1070 any more . . . I just checked The Gringo Mask site and the ad firm behind the satire seems to have backed off. I guess I can make my own.
Still, what's funny to me is that the term "Gringo" was reported as a racial slur by media who either have never heard a native speaker on a roll or mistakenly think U.S. mainstream corporate culture applies to the rest of the world. Seriously, there are much more offensive Spanish terms that are commonly used in public conversations that make that term seem almost quaint.
A note from the site on the topic: "It is simply a slang term used to describe Caucasians, and we don't assign any negative connotations to it. In fact, the mask communicates that looking this way will keep you above suspicion of being an illegal immigrant in Arizona, a positive thing not a derogatory one. "
I guess the gag was (somewhat) "fun" while it lasted.
Why didn't you credit TV station WPTV and in fact link to them?

WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- It's called the "Gringo Mask" and its creator says its blonde hair and light skin, "Communicates that looking this way will keep you above suspicion of being an illegal immigrant in Arizona."....

He did link to them. Radio man, seriously dumb fuck.
ReplyDeleteThat's about as funny as you Tony. Meaning it's ghey.
ReplyDeleteradioman you miserable twunt, put your cursor, the pointy magic thing floating on your screen) on the BLUE TEXT. These are called LINKS. One of these LINKS will direct you to the very site you just blathered about.
ReplyDeleteYou are obsessed with TKC, you love him too many. Profess your unrequited love before the obsession drives you mad.
Yeah, but Tony should set his software so links underline, line on his sidebar and on most evry other fucquing website in America. Yeah I saw it but it was too late. Usually he sources news sources in the copy and I thought it was interesting that in this case he didn't.
ReplyDeleteI'm not in love with the guy, I think it's YOU. Who else would get all hateful to people who write disagreeably to his rants?
Hell I don't hardly even READ his rants. But don't run off his readers, if you care what's good for him. Other than the anonybureucrats.
THEY need to get back to work!
I don't think 'spic' is derogatory either, if it applies. Nor wetbacks. So call me a gringo all you want. It was meant to be derogatory towards Americans/whites.
ReplyDeleteWhatever white man.
ReplyDeleteI WANT ONE!
ReplyDeleteTony- PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell Radioman he can be your editor. Then send him a candy bar a week or something as a stipend. Or, maybe a hot tamale? (Lame attempt to keep the gringo-Latino theme...)
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind ,though, that he's a guy who can't say good morning in less than four paragraphs... and based on some of his posts on other topics today he does need to brush up on spelling. But I'm thinking if he's your editor he could email you his tirades over journalistic ethics, formatting, etc. and spare the rest of us.
Barring that, Radioman: don't you have your own blog to play in?
White people are suppose to take this?
ReplyDeleteHow about a Oriental , Sambo, or Mexican bandit mask.
So what's your problem? You read this blog on an iphone?
ReplyDeleteGet a computer with a mouse that's got a wheel and then you can scroll down past things after your A.D.D. kicks in.
Or take up tweeting. That's all a guy like you needs to know about anything. What, 140 characters?
