Downtown Hotel Committee Stalls, Complains that $350k Worth Of Consulting Doesn't Buy A Lot Nowadays
The KC Biz Journal: "During its May 24 meeting, the committee voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council adopt a proposed resolution directing the city manager to develop the hotel RFP. But unanimity was achieved only after the committee agreed to delete a clause directing the city manager to enter into a $249,000 purchase option for the hotel’s preferred site."
Money line from the report, the committee expresses: "disappointment with the level of help that’s been generated by $350,000 worth of consulting."

And what has Kim Carlos done for the tens of thousands of dollars she got for "PR" related to the hotel proposal?? No one has hardly heard or seen her. The folks involved are perplexed that they has been little community outreach and the only news stories are simply reporting about meetings. The bloggers are having a field day and they should. So for those of us who think this is all a big waste of time and money we should be happy Carlos has not done much to promote the "positive" aspects of this charade.
ReplyDeleteIt is real simple. NO 1,000 room hotel.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the city has EVER paid a consultant who ultimately said "This idea SUCKS." ?
ReplyDeleteJust who is this boogey-woman known as Kim Carlos.
ReplyDeleteI never seen her name anywhere but here.
Could she be the real "Carlos the Jackal".
I'm sure every consultant in the last 20 years has said that.
ReplyDeleteThey just waited until they got that last check from the city to do so.
I bet that there's some super-secret consultant message board where they get together to laugh at K.C. and draw straws for work on next stupid idea that the council comes up with.
They could of already built that hotel if they would of saved all the money paid out to consultants in the last 10 years.
Why not draw the line with Kim?
ReplyDeleteI dont think so, boyz n girls. I think consultants have an introductory meeting with city officials to find out what they wanna do, and then the consultants take their $350k to write that UP in fancy words, put it in slick presentation, add a few graphs and summarize that what the city officials want is exactly what they recommend!
ReplyDeleteCity officials hire consultants so if something goes wrong, the CONSULTANTS get the blame, not the administrators! I learned this watching a city government the seventies, 197 miles south of here on I 35.
