Something to think about this afternoon . . .
The horrific murder of The Hooker Brothers dumped in a shopping cart after their slaughter was seemingly described as "just another Eastside" murder until details of the barbarism became more widely known. Thankfully, the KCPD made a quick arrest.
Meanwhile, the mere mention of a Plaza murder was put on blast across this town and newsies were in a frenzy to get more details. Again, The KCPD is making more arrests on this one as well.
Although there is obviously a bit of media disparity present . . . Something even more revealing binds these homicides:
KANSAS CITY'S CLASS AND RACIAL DIVISIONS ARE BREAKING DOWN WHEN IT COMES TO THE RISING MURDER RATE!!! ALL OF KANSAS CITY SEEMS CAUGHT UP IN THIS WARM WEATHER SEASON OF KILLING!!!
Because of great advice and AWESOME TIPSTERS I've started to see homicides in this cowtown a bit differently, it's not just about poverty or the availability of guns. Kansas City murder is also about social injustice, increasing civic tension and an overall decline in the respect for life. These trends don't just stay East of Troost and once again Kansas City will soon be forced to learn that the murder rate and horrific crime will never stay completely confined to one area. We're all in this together, whether we like it or not.
I don't completely agree but a good post anyway T.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Tony: Great post! Yes, you are right, we are "all in this together." The violence surge that began in KCMO in the spring of 2008 initially largely consisted of gang members killing other gang members in minority neighborhoods. But, as has been shown in other cities that ended up being destroyed by crime, that is only the first stage of "urban implosion." In the past year we have seen case after case of homicides involving people with no gang connections: The Starlight theatre homicide, the murder of a pregnant woman and her unborn child, the murder of a promising black high school student near Rockhurst, and now the death of a prominent city business leader. Notice to the city's journalists, politicians and community leaders: The time for denial is over--violence is not going to go away by pretending it is not happening. KCMO is on the verge of becoming known as the new "Murder Captial of America" as all over the nation almost all other cities are experiencing record low homicide totals. If you people think you can dodge responsiblity for what is happening in this city you are as delusional as the DC crowd thinking that they can lie their way out of responsibility for the disasterous Iraq War. Sincerely, Respectfully and In Christ, Ernest Evans PS: After the last such post of mine several people said I should not criticize unless I say what needs to be done. Actually, in my capacity as a KCKCC political science professor I have written a number of memos and articles about the city's crime problems and they have been read by people in authority all over town--anyone who wants copies can email me at eevans66048@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteWe need a new police chief. This has been going on for years. KCPD is doing a poor job.
ReplyDeleteHyperbole is your master.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that the murders were horrific. Did you see them happen.
The only horrific thing I can see is your posts.
If you knew what store the shopping cart came from you could make something up about them laying dead in a cart from a store full of white racists or something...
There is a real story here. Chief Corwin is well educated, sophisticated, etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteBut if he's going to run for Mayor, he has to explain why things Kansas City does NOT especially safe.
No real innovation that has made a difference; and padding the Police payroll with cops doing administrative work that lower-cost civilians could do as well dose not a leader make.
Corwin is not a leader. He's all politics.
ReplyDeleteOne day:
ReplyDeletecase 1. one double homicide- bodies shoved in trash bags left to rot IN A SHOPPING CART behind an abandoned house. Found days later.
case 2. one victim shot, body left at 'upscale Country Club Plaza residential neighborhood' crime scene, discovered within hours.
Guess which case gets called "Another homicide on the city's Eastside" and which case is called "A Murder Mystery"?
Yep, Plaza trumps foreclosure land. Enter Miss Marple and a pot of tea for a cozy rundown of the victim and his feuding family!
I'm puzzled. Could you please give an example of a KC area murder that resulted from "social injustice"?
ReplyDeleteTo: Everyone still hates gloria squitiro... love your name, but your post is strange to me. Are you implying that the Plaza area murder was discovered within hours because it was near the Plaza? That is ridiculous. The other bodies were left behind an abandoned house, hence no one was around to hear the murder, witness the bodies being dumped, etc. In the other case, the victim had called the police just hours earlier, and he lived in a gated community with lots of neighbors watching. You can try to make the comparison, but there really isn't one at all.
ReplyDeleteIf all these social problems really exist as you state them:
ReplyDeleteIt's Obama's fault. Completely.
May Allah, blessed be his name. reduce the human suffering in Kansas city.
ReplyDeleteRespectfully and In Allah we hope for the future of Kansas City under his guidance.
