What have we learned so far about Mayor Funky's efforts to screw around with local schools?
The Kansas City, Missouri School District politely rejected his offer of help.
Other than political cronies, he doesn't have much if any support from the community on this one.
He's promising a lively discussion but everybody knows most meetings involving the Mayor end up with the guy lecturing like a professor.
His Schools First efforts have already been COMPLETELY REJECTED by The City Council.
Kansas City's real effort to work toward better schools started with support of Superintendent Covington and the slate of candidates put together by School Board President Airick L. West. Which leads us to the question . . .
IS MAYOR FUNKY'S FORAY INTO KANSAS CITY SCHOOLS A TACITLY RACIST EFFORT TO STEAL RECOGNITION FROM TWO HIGH POWERED AFRICAN-AMERICAN LEADERS WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY RIDING THEIR COATTAILS?!?!?!
Mayor Funky hasn't accomplished much of anything during his time in office and now he's so desperate that he might not see this Schools First plan is one of his most cynical and despicable efforts ever concocted. Even worse, the fact that he's too incompetent or manipulative to recognize his subtle insult to (mostly) people (of color) working for real, local school progress is just one of the Mayor's many problems.

Funk is beholden to Ajamu, who no longer can count on school contracts to keep his business going. Funk needs to get control of the district to get elected. Fortunately, none of that will happen.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I did not (and never would) vote for Funkhouser; but actually, I respectfully disagree somewhat with Tony's characterization of Funkhouser on this matter.
ReplyDeleteTony says Funhouser is "desperate ... his plan is ...cynical and despicable". I believe it is desperate and pathetic.
He is a man who is being publicly shunned, and he is grasping at straws. If he had any real understanding of his standing in Kansas City, he would know he stands NO CHANCE for re-election. He should publicly announce that he will not run for re-election.
It is the only thing that might BEGIN to humanize him. But that's what he SHOULD do; what he WILL do is prove once and for all that he is UNABLE to listen to anyone else; he will further tarnish his image (yes, that's still possible), and will be HUMILIATED in his re-election effort.
That's Mark Funkhouser -- our Mayor thanks to Yael Abouhalkah, and the other GENIUSES on the Kansas City Star Editorial Board.
town hall in sprint center for a lost cause. bwaaahaaahaaahaaa!
ReplyDeleteof course, the media will be all over this. so...
i wonder how many of them will be brave enough to show how EMPTY the place will be.
Photographers don't show emptiness unless the reporter says thats the story.
ReplyDeleteTV photographers will fill their frame with the seven staff members there. It's what they do.
And T. The Funk's plan isn't despicable and certainly not cynical. YOU might be 'cynical' and Darla likes to overuse 'despicable'--- she thinks its gully. (Sharp, like a knife).
Perhaps you should put a shortcut to dictionary.com on your desktop.
I also read the statement that the KCSD Super wrote, saying that he applauds the mayor's plan (slow clap) and in the next paragraph made it clear the schools have a single minded academic priority. That's to say the KCSD isn't going to 'help' the mayor with off-school-property improvements. Mostly because that's not what schools do.
Your take, "The Kansas City, Missouri School District politely rejected his offer of help." is pure fiction. Covvy didn't 'reject' anything. Yet another misapplied word!
Isn't there enough you can (over)use to beat up the Mayor besides making shit up?
turnout IS/will be part of the story, radioman.
ReplyDeleteTurn out is the reason for the event. funk'd would lie if he thought he could get away with boosting up the numbers. City staff will be forced to show up en masse to fill some seats. Local AM listeners from Raytown, Johnson County, Liberty etc will attend to see the 980 freaks.
ReplyDeletefunk'd can't even pull off scam political event.
I would love to see a complete list of his accomplishments as Mayor. You say he hasn't accomplished much of anything. Let's see what he has done.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of folks get Funk's Front Porch whenever his wife decides to write it. I want to know why no one in this city is willing to publicly call him on some of the shit that is in there, especially his 10 priorities list that is always at the end of every missive from the Squid.
They haven't accomplished one single thing on that list and he's only got a year left.
Why doesn't anyone in town write about it. Maybe it will wake the doofuses up.
Interesting point... I'm not sure how many right wingers will show up just because they are dutiful talk radio right wingers.
ReplyDeleteMaybe. If so, then the Mayor's scored a coup, riding some attendance figures on the coat tails of right wing radio and their dittoheads.
I'm not sure. Any serious TV reporter will ask a few if they live in the KC jurisdiction or are just showing up to see Darla's overweight ass!
Boy will THEY be surprised since she's way bigger than KMBZ's publicity photos of her!
That girl needs to go on a serious crash diet if she hopes to keep her job! Lets face it, if the Hollywood types can do it to get movie gigs, so can that fat talker if she hopes to make a living!
Lets face it, if you're gonna do radio with personal appearances, it's the same as TV. It's about appearance, not sound. Ya just can't be fat. You need to SOUND like your web picture looks! She doesn't!
I've seen Darla on Ruckus.
ReplyDelete"Fat and ugly" only BEGINS to cover it!
