Mayor Funky and his wife/Co-Mayor Squitiro were too busy mugging for the cameras on The Plaza this weekend to put out their newsletter in a timely fashion. And now it looks like they're trying to take credit for a peaceful Plaza weekend. Here's the latest supply of propaganda, shilling for their latest debacle and nonsense for those who missed out:
"Dear Folks,
This Week's City Business
***This is the newsletter from last week - the server was down again so we couldn't get it out until today***
Many meetings had to be rescheduled this week so that the Mayor could piece together the facts from last week's youth incident on the Plaza. Last Saturday night, Kansas City Police dealt with more than 700 mostly middle and high school students who gathered quickly, disrupted businesses and frightened customers and visitors to the Plaza. There were injuries. There was disruption. This is not how we do things in Kansas City. And this type of behavior will not be tolerated here.
What we know today is that flash mobs, wilding.whatever you'd like to call it.is nothing new, a phenomenon that seems to follow spring weather on an increasingly more frequent basis.
Kansas City Police officers, like their counterparts from New York to Los Angeles, are dealing this spring with fast-developing, sometimes unruly crowds brought together by text message, Twitter and Facebook.
Since the incident, the Mayor has been in continual contact with our police department. He has also been in contact with Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia. Mayor Nutter's city is known nationally because of this type of situation occurring there, and he is personally known for the remarkable way that he dealt with the problem. He advised our Mayor that the best way to keep the situation from reoccurring is to come down heavy-handed the first time that it happens. This means issuing felony arrests and educating the public about what the lifetime consequences of a felony arrest means. This was all very good advice and it confirmed what our Mayor thought his direction needed to be.
The police department has developed a detailed crowd response plan to deal with any further incidents, and will alert the Mayor if something else should occur. In addition to this, the Mayor is also working closely with local community and neighborhood groups to develop a plan and to get outside funding for youth activities this summer. While the Mayor will not tolerate loitering, he does know that ignoring teens' innate desire to congregate, without a chaperoned venue to do so, is foolhardy.
On a More Personal Note
As is typical, Funk and I plan to spend part of this evening walking to the Plaza to have a cup of coffee with our family. We encourage you to do the same.

Schools First is the Mayor's new initiative created to help all schools in Kansas City - public, private and charter - by improving public safety and infrastructure around the schools.
* Schools First will: Use a no tax increase bond to fix sidewalks, crosswalks and other city infrastructure around all schools
* Use a portion of a renewed Public Safety sales tax to fund increased police presence around all schools
* Focus Kansas City's basic service priorities on areas around all schools
* Partner with all schools to apply for federal and private grants to improve neighborhoods and walk to school programs
* Create a city based staff liaison to work with every school
o The following is a list of how you can get involved: Call or write your Council members and ask them to vote to put the initiative on the August ballot
o Ask five of your friends to do the same, and have them ask five of their friends to do the same, and so on...
o The Mayor is currently growing an email database to give twice-weekly updates regarding the initiative. Please send an email to five friends who you think would support the initiative and would like to hear updates regarding it - and ask them if you could provide the Mayor with their email address for this purpose. Then have them ask five of their friends to do the same, and so on. You can email the Mayor regarding this initiative at: schoolsfirst@kcmo.org.
o Organize a town hall meeting for the Mayor to come and speak about the initiative, then promote it, with the goal of having 50 people in attendance
o Hand out informational brochures and buttons regarding the initiative
o Call in to talk radio to show your support of the initiative
o Write a letter to the editor to show your support of the initiative

The Mayor's top ten priorities:
1. Establishing a good working relationship with the Council
2. Getting the City's finances in order
3. Making downtown work
4. Tending to our neighborhoods
5. Implementing the Housing Policy task force recommendations
6. Improving the perception and the reality of public education in Kansas City
7. Reducing Crime
8. Repairing our sewer systems
9. Establishing an excellent regional transit system, which includes light rail
10. Improving citizen satisfaction with City services
disgusting.
ReplyDeleteYou mean by flooding the rich white folks Plaza with cops... while murders are taking place at the same time all over the city.
ReplyDeletePS where's Waldo?
This is just pure racist crap.
In addition to this, the Mayor is also working closely with local community and neighborhood groups to develop a plan and to get outside funding for youth activities this summer........
ReplyDeleteby the time they fill out all the paper work for funding, summer will be over... get real.
Funk and I plan to spend part of this evening walking to the Plaza to have a cup of coffee with our family........ why doesn't our "brave" mayor do that on the east side?
ReplyDeleteworst press release yet. Dumbshits.
ReplyDeleteHold up. The KClibfest Star failed to ever mention that this was a black mob. But sho nuf, it was.
ReplyDeleteAnd why the funk WOULD the Mayor walk for coffee on the east side, where, as you imply, he would ceertainly be at risk of assault, robbery or worse from the indigenous minority populations there. How is that racist when YOU admit as much? Rip on rich white kids all you want but i aint never seen them wilding.
Tony, youre prejudice against the mayor and wife shows in your slamming the press release.
ReplyDeleteYou did nothing but harm your own credibility by telling Tony's Take on a press release and then give us the press release to check your TAKE on it.
I read it. I have an excellent grasp of the language and well honed bullshit detector.
It was factual, it set policy which most people agree with, and it ended by suggesting people should not be afraid to go to the plaza, for coffee.
The Mayor was being mayoral, doing his job and it was well worded. lets face it, you wouldn't give the guy credit if he pulled a toddler out of a burning house!
I'm starting to think you're taking too much Viagra because your hard-on for him just never goes down. You're starting to sound like Rush Limbaugh.
Sorry, you provide a good gathering place but you need a vacation and a fresh look at the world above basement level.
I want to know from where Radioman blogs.
ReplyDeleteRadio whatever are you Gloria? You are stupid. But you already know that. Correct.
ReplyDeleteDumb shit Gloria, take some adult education classes. You really are stupid. Good god woman.
ReplyDeleteI think that someone should point out that "loitering" is written in the First Amendment as "the right to assemble".
ReplyDeleteRadioman you totally missed the point sure any jackass can go to the Plaza and get a cup of coffee ... but how about the other "less white" areas. (not to mention highly policed areas)
ReplyDeleteRadioman your credibility is at stake.
"you wouldn't give the guy credit if he pulled a toddler out of a burning house!"
ReplyDeleteWhat part of town radioman? The one with all the media or the one with all the homicides.
The point of the press release wasn't about anything but the Plaza after a wilding.
ReplyDeleteBringing up other areas in relation to this topic is irrelevant. It wasn't a discussion on city wide safety, it was about one incident and city policy on it.
Any fool can try to broaden what is presented with "what about THIS?", "What about THAT?"
But its all rhetorical. I was commenting on Tony being unfairly critical of a pretty straight forward press release. Kinda like some of you others are.
Why didn't he talk about broken sewer mains or snow removal on side streets? Why? Because the comments were limited to one incident and dealing with it. Is that unreasonable?
If so, how was it unreasonable? Sometimes this room, and afew of the commenters remind me of the two little nervous dogs next door. When let out, they just bark incessantly until the mommie takes em back in. If I didn't like the guy next door, I'd take a pellet gun to the one that just can't stop yapping.
They have electronic devices to teach don'ts not to bark incessantly. They should have such a device for bloggers who are one trick ponies.
Don't do what Tony does, and trash me... I'm just sayin. If you don't agree, don't be mean spirited, tell me where I'm wrong, if you think I am.
We have enough hate speech in the media and its not all that helpful. I'm simply suggesting Tony make an effort to be fair and practice some objectivity. I'm not asking for a pint of his blood here.
In sum, let's disagree maybe but not be disagreeable.
Server problem?
ReplyDeleteThey held off putting a story up until they knew that the Plaza was not burned down on their watch.
Buy the Bitch a Wig!
The Co-mayors could have at least gone down after dark.
ReplyDeleteRadio man your comments are way to long I skip right past them. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteGone Down
ReplyDeleteCo mayors?
I do not want to see that
Radioman is Crazy Gloria. Check it out. What a nut case.
ReplyDeleteI agree 10:37 its old Glo.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Gloria forgot to tell everyone the kcpd brass got back on friday from Philly with imput on their crowd control. The Co-mayors need to learn the word we (kc)not us me and funk.
ReplyDelete"Bringing up other areas in relation to this topic is irrelevant." from radioman
ReplyDeleteNo it's not. I have a right to compare preferential treatment of the plaza to other parts of town.
Radioman start comparing the macro and the micro so you get the BIG picture.
Don't limit your mind and perspectives.
Radioman the problem with Funk & Glo's factual press release (last weeks-Weekly Newsletter-delivered this week) are the facts themselves. Funk & Glo are great at delivering facts, (Plaza Turdschooler Plaza Riot-Crumbling infrastructure-Failing KCMSD school district-yet ever so weak at delivering on any viable solution to address the city's problems. Together, Funk & Glo have done nothing more than frustrate every good idea for any problem solution they may present by alienating themselves from the entire city. Tony makes the most important observation of all by pointing out how the Plaza area, (Rich Folk) gets heavy police protection while the Eastside, (Po Folk) get the same lean protection, day after day, week after week, year after year. 'Black on Black' crimes 'thugs killin thugs' you may suggest. However you fail to acknowledge all us innocent, taxpaying, Eastside people (Stuck Folk) caught in the crossfire-some unscathed, some injured, some dead innocent, taxpaying, Eastside people are still waiting for Funk & Glo's campaign promises of "neighborhood's first" to come through. And stop telling me to take care of my own community because if the city may send a huge police force to police the Plaza to quail a possible Turdschooler Riot, then the city should be able to send a huge police force over here to the Eastside to get these thugs off our streets!
ReplyDeletesigned,
One Pissed Off Eastside Resident.
I'm not arguing your RIGHTS to bring up any unreasonable point you wish. Go ahead. You can even bitch about your mother in law. it's your right.
ReplyDeleteBut it's illogical and immaterial to what we're talking about. And a waste of my time! As well as other readers.
If you don't have a legit argument, maybe you should just not make a POST and let it go. Moreover your two cents may not be worth two cents on some posts. I just hate to have to skim past the morons to find wisdom.
"And a waste of my time! As well as other readers. from radioman"
ReplyDeleteRadioman if you don't like it then turn the channel if you feel that other peoples opinions and post are wasting your time.
Prob only just YOURS! (sigh) Put forth more effort or be quiet!
ReplyDeleteoh, poor Radioman. Everyones making fun of his Funky Hero.
ReplyDelete10:57 Im with ya brother. We need to come together from all over the city. Covington and the diverse school board are on the right track. I'll meet you half way.
ReplyDelete11:17-I honestly believe Covington and the KCMSD school board are on the right track. I'm also thankful the Plaza is at least safer now than on Saturday, April 11. The mayor's stupid press release would suggest the turds Plaza riot was last week. But then the mayors office can't put a Newsletter out on time because of a server problem. Funk & Glo can't deliver on anything except expensive lawsuits paid by us taxpayers. Meanwhile, some jerk like Radioman defends the stupid Funk & Glo assholes and dumps all over everyone else in the process. And were wasting his time? Please!
ReplyDeleteI'm not defending them. I don't even know them. But its clear those who spend their days hating them have lost a decent perspective.
ReplyDeleteI've found few people who are completely bad even from a political perspective. if you think that, then maybe you lack objectivity.
MY VIEW is that once you've lost your objectivity, you've lost your relevance! Then you serve no purpose to the rest of us! Ya might as well just go away, never to be heard from again.
So if you don't want that to happen to you, then work very hard to maintain your objective viewpoint!
TKC's people Radioman is Gloria. Another extension of her crazy personality ie. Cybil.
ReplyDelete"issuing felony arrests" in Philadelphia for flash mobbing...you can't arrest someone for a felony unless they've committed a felony. I don't get what this means.
ReplyDeleteThat Bitch is crazy. Why do they continue to let that idiot write that crap. Answer that City Attorney. Tax payer money.
ReplyDeleteShe may be crazy but it wasn't a poorly written release.
ReplyDeleteNot to other crazies. Radioglo.
ReplyDelete!
ReplyDeleteOfficer! Arrest that short' squat female(?)! She is making lewd gestures, publicly groping that tall, ugly dude and following men into the bathroom!
here are the funk'ds, loitering on the Plaza, trying to save money by making their one cup of coffee last all evening. Poor bastard is saving all of his nickles because he will be out on the street come May 1, 2010
Gloria,
ReplyDeletePlease just do some good for your bedraggled husband. Keep quiet. You bring out the loathing in all of us. Help your husband, "serve him" if you will, by staying out of the spot light that you crave.
You are terrible, you are mean and you are unloved. We can not change any of that.
The best that you can do is to stop inflicting more humiliation upon your husband.
i hate the bitch for sho, cannot stand the sight of the fat ho.
ReplyDeleteWho gives a crap. I just can't wait until November when we can retire the Funk and his wife.
ReplyDelete
