Kansas City's Downtown Renaissance is dead, long live the Downtown Renaissance.
Not so long ago, Former Mayor Kay Barnes ran up this town's credit cards with her silly pipe dreams for downtown renewal that did nothing but drive away longstanding local biz, created a racially divisive atmosphere and (most importantly) LOST A LOT OF MONEY FOR KANSAS CITY!!!
Now . . .
There's a rapidly aging arena without an anchor tenant.
A party district that loses money year after year.
Surrounded by mostly empty condos that never brought residents back inside the loop.
The solution?
Spend even more taxpayer money on real estate development schemes.
It's weird, I even agree with The Star's hack Mike Hendricks when it comes to opposition to this dumb plan. Sadly, he quotes Mayor Funky who doesn't contribute much to the conversation whereas TKC has always tried t come up with a bit of useful info . . .
For instance, the proposed site of the new hotel comes to us courtesy of a developer who gave Cindy Circo $1,000 for campaign expenses.
As usual . . .
THIS IS VERY REAL CORRUPTION GOING ON IN KANSAS CITY AS COUNCIL PEOPLE ONLY COST $1,000!!!
Since this is the case, I'm trying to scrape together a few pennies in order to get the local 40oz. ban rescinded. I hear there are a great many media people working on this story but thanks to TKC TIPSTERS I've been able to join the ranks of a great many people who think this taxpayer funded Downtown Hotel idea is just plain dumb.
Downtown Kansas City is dead.
ReplyDeleteThis city has too much crime. And it's spreading. It won't be long before KC is another Detroit.
The neighborhoods are falling apart, schools are closing, teachers losing their jobs, big homicide rate, businesses leaving, yep sounds like detroit.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately this daily doom-saying, hellhole kind of talk is tantamount to giving the city and it's people towards the edge of the cliff.
ReplyDeleteOne thing about awesome downtown tipsters, no one would suggest they're public servants, as in 'serving the public.' In fact they're biting the hands that feed them. Keep saying downtown is dead, continually publicizing problems, no one will go to the district and people who might buy condos and start grocery stores will stay away because you all established the bad reputation.
Former government bureaucrats are just bad hires. Not awesome at all! Neither are bloggers who cheerlead fail, fail, fail.
Is it because if everyone fails, they won't stand out?
This project is in good hands. Ron Jury did an incredible job with the Hotel President.
ReplyDeleteCheck out KCDowntowner.com, where Joe Miller exposes the Copaken hotel corruption.
ReplyDeleteWell radioman the unvarnished truth is hard to swallow.
ReplyDeleteKansas City is not the end of the world but you can sure see it from here.
ReplyDeleteRadioglo. Discovery in next law suit will expose.
ReplyDeleteYou only have to look at the the Chairman and the Chairwoman (and know how they operate)of the Hotel Committee to imagine the corruption that is behind the Jury site. Word has it Whitney Kerr has hired a private investigator and intends to litigate.
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with Truth. But when ya start to notice that negative Truth starts getting repeated every day and the Truth Seekers spend their days and nights in their targets' dirty clothes hamper, well it starts to look more like a campaign.
ReplyDeleteKinda like what radio talk show people do to the dems on behalf of the businesses that pay them to discredit their opposition.
ps
ReplyDeleteGood to see Tony's software post error was fixed. Now it posts first time.

Whoops, not quite done with this posting issue. if you double click on Publish, it still posts twice.
ReplyDelete"radio talk show people do to the dems on behalf of the businesses that pay them to discredit their opposition." from radioman
ReplyDeleteWhich radio-show are you talking about. Also can you provide a link that shows their sponsors are paying to discredit someone.
The syndicated national ones. Not the local ones, Darla's show's mostly running PSA's, last I heard.
ReplyDeleteBut even the local ones clean up during election time, and many of those are paid by business.
The insurance types advertise on talk stations and talk stations bring em on for quid pro quo interviews. Never a tough question, just infomercials disguised as public affairs.
Ugly design! Union Station and that atrocity next door all over again! Will this city ever learn?
ReplyDeleteRon Jury did an incredible job because he won an incredible lawsuit and got millions. He did an incredible job for himself.
ReplyDeleteYou should all pay attention to Radioman's first post. He is an EXPERT on FAIL.
ReplyDeleteEvidence: has to find readers here on TKC.
And yes, just another anonymouse- thought I'd save you the trouble of ranting about that, and possibly posting twice when you click twice (talk about fail...)
Oh now-Radiomans not so bad. But you're right about him looking for readers here on TKC. Anyway-please keep posting Radioman-I like your stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'd pay to see a hotel like this downtown. And, I have a feeling I will pay-along with the rest of KC.
ReplyDeleteI post on here yes and occasionally Spam on here because Tony doesn't show me the same courtesy he shows so many others.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, like for Dee (who's politically opposite my views) just with a link like "Dee's still the best conservative kc blogger." Not linking to a specially interesting post, but just a 'for the hell of it'. I blog in part to carry the progressive banner.
Won't even hazard a guess why Alonzo gets triple posted almost every day. And so much of his stuff is purely self-promotion.
Now if Tony charges for simple plugs and courtesy mentions, like the mafia charges protection, well I didn't get the goons coming in to say pay us or we'll never mention ya.
Yeah I know, I'm whining a bit but he was rude to me pretty much the first week I came up last year and asked to get on his blogroll.
Now he's nice to me when I send him a photo or a link privately, but, like, did I steal a girl from him back in junior high or what?
I like the guy, tho I do chastize him when he's being mean, and I usually sign my name. Why not? But thats no reason blacklist somebody, is it?
That's the last thing journalists and bloggers would ethically do.
I think as the lead blogger in town he should be a cheerleader for the artform and pretty much everybody who puts forth a daily effort, including those who got bounced out of the Star.
He usually does but he sometimes does the same thing Hearne does, I've read. Piss him off and they're no longer friends.
Boys don't do that. Only parochial school girls do. Boys are supposed to roll around in the dirt over a dispute and get up being friends again. It's a sport but we should be careful not to wound people outta meanness. Especially personal fouls.
just sayin.
I wouldn't have even responded to this, but I was pretty unhappy with his unfair headline over Barnhardt. And constant ripping of Hendricks, who is a fairly decent writer and probably goes on the assignments hes sent to.
Trashing people for the hell of it is the kind of shit Matt Drudge does. I'm sure you've noticed his misleading headlines, high prominence when he's nailing the Oman, and always showing libs and dems in unattractive photos.
I fire off noters to HIM too, not that he reads me, but I feel better doing it.
Not suggest all my work's worthy of many TKC repostings but I know when I've written a good local analysis before anyone else has... and Tony sees em but ignores em. I was spot on, on the plaza thing, and others picked up on the same viewpoint. But my post didn't appear here, I had to make it here.
I would much rather do it on my own turf where I can edit mistakes and add photos. I don't want to post too much here... which is a risk when you do it by handle. And I do like his blog and its many great topics.
Rambled enough. Thanks for wadin thru, if you did.
Sorry radioman didn't read it your too long winded.
ReplyDeleteYoure loss, anony. Stay dumb. Trust me, you'd never have made it through college with nightly reading assignments impossible to complete!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should quit here and just tweet so you don't strain your eyes and your mind. I hope you don't do anything more advanced than data entry at Shitty Hall. If you make more than 20k, you should be FIRED as incompetent.
RadiomanKC has absolutely piss poor writing skills. He needs to go back and do the 6th grade again. Tony is a douche but at least he knows how to properly structure a sentence.
ReplyDeleteexhale. I wasted my time to post to THIS moron?
ReplyDeleteRKC, your blog is a waste of time. You'll never be as big in this town as Tony. Unless we're talking about waistlines. There you have him beat hands down!
ReplyDelete2:34pm-ugly design? At least it would cover uo that hidious windowless side of the P&L building with a tower full of windows. shiny. . .
ReplyDeleteThe city needs a broader city wide vision. Urban Re-development that can also address our EPA mandated sewer issues.
ReplyDeleteYou're an idiot. Please move to Detroit.
ReplyDeleteKansas City and Detroit are both shitholes so why move?
