I'm surprised you d-bags haven't noticed but as I sit hear listening to George Benson's 1981 hit "Turn Your Love Around" I can't help but think that School Board hopeful Kyleen Carroll might be the sexist candidate for the job we've seen in quite some time.

I've seen her speak and she's very professional and knowledgeable but I keep waiting for her to remove her glasses, whip off her shirt and start dancing on the table like that Van Halen "Hot For Teacher" video.



And while my observation is shallow and stereotypical so is the expectation that a bunch of middle-class white people and their good intentions are going to turn around decades of failure in The Kansas City, Missouri School District.

A great many other folks have pointed out that the hubris of upwardly mobile Kansas City white folks hoping to save the KCMSD has consistently met with disappointment and then bitterness for more than a generation.

The again, middle-class white folks thinking their good intentions were enough to fix systemic problems has always been a character flaw of Kansas City. Or maybe it's just part of our culture.



In any event, as this School Board election has progressed I've noticed one thing:

THE CONDESCENDING ATTITUDE OF MIDDLE-CLASS WHITE PEOPLE WANTING TO FIX THE DISTRICT WITHOUT HAVING TO GET THEIR HANDS DIRTY AND ADDRESS RACIAL DISPARITY AT THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IS ALMOST ENOUGH TO MAKE ME WANT TO VOTE FOR LINWOOD TAUHEED!!!

Almost, but not really.

In any event, it's become so condescending, naive and hyperbolic that the only thing that really makes sense to me is Kyleen Carrol's hotness.

Sad thing is, I basically support the slate, but expecting three people to turn around the district is too much pressure and simply misguided. Let's look at the facts:

Agreeing with Covington's School Closings seems to be the litmus test for the support of middle-class white people . . . This doesn't improve education or help test scores. It's housekeeping and a budget move at the expense of neighborhood schools and teachers in mostly minority districts. It's a dreadful bit of misdirection to make the arguement that fewer teachers and resources will help education.

The only thing a victory will definitely CHANGE is the winners. Two recent School Board members have quit. A place on The Kansas City, Missouri School Board is thankless, unpaid and exhausting. Elected officials always make somewhat of an about face but the KCMSD is notorious for turning away people from the political process. Don't expect the hopeful pre-election spirit to remain a few months into the job.

Did I mention that Kyleen is kinda hot?

Anyhoo for all these reasons and more the hype over upcoming School Board elections doesn't reflect reality. It's merely a nice story given that there's no quantifiable proof that the Kansas City, Missouri School District is improving or even headed in the right direction.


To wit, tonight's playlist is dedicated to the taboo subject of classroom romance and the best intentions of hopeful white people wanting to fix the district.
