Lots of power plays this week. Here's who came out winning:
POLITICOS
1. Gloria Squitiro - She's back at City Hall and in Brookside calling the shots. That's real power.
2. Big Al Riederer - He has generated a great deal of buzz for flip-flopping while out of office.
3. Jason Kander - Quite a few people have taken note that he's putting his heart and soul into his (losing) battle for ethics reform. It's one of the most worthwhile failures the State has seen in a long time.
4. Deb Hermann - The lady who might be Mayor.
5. Airick L. West - A few dedicated white people still love him.
NEWSIES
1. Sylvia Gross - KC Currents kicks ass and it makes you smarter.
2. John Landsberg - Still KC's media referee, he just wrote an interesting article noting yours truly.
3. KC Stage Blog - A nice overview of the local entertainment scene.
4. KC Scoop - Good stuff. Definitely worth a read.
5. Aaron Barnhart - Did they fire him? I can only hope. He gets a ranking just because he's still drawing a check.
FAILING LOCAL INSTITUTIONS
1. The Kansas City Star - More layoffs and harsh times.
2. The computer mouse - It's dead, I tried an Ipad this week and now I'm convinced.
3. A Downtown Kansas City Hotel - There is no money, sorry.
4. Your crappy local band - Still sucks. With a few notable exceptions.
5. The P&L District - Losing money for an entire city was never so chic.
This list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a (mostly) weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people.
no sir i don't like it.
ReplyDeleteThe co-mayors wont be re-elected even if the election was only in brookside.
ReplyDeleteKansas city is losing money, business and people..... the city government is getting ready to ask for even more money and more taxes ....
ReplyDeleteYou just don't let go of your preconceived notions, do ya T?
ReplyDeleteWell it won't happen til you're ready for enlightment and a change of heart.
I think the touch screen will be a very big deal, but I'd point out that it takes more energy, more arm motion to move around the screen to TOUCH than to move your hand slightly clear across the screen.
Depends on what people are doing. The touch screen will be fine for browsing strange websites.
But the mouse won't be going away, even if it will be much more wireless.
And I still maintain that browsers are fine when going to a strange read only surfing world. But they're not so good for repetitious data entry which is done in many jobs.
Epiphany for Tony. When the economy gets trashed and all governments lose their income taxes when so many people are out of work, they have two choices.
Cut back on services (schools, police, roads, health and welfare) or raise taxes on those who ARE working.
What would you suggest besides just wringing your hands?
I remember Al Riederer from years ago when he was in the JXCO prosecutor office.
ReplyDeleteAlways available to the media, always willing to subvert any defendant's situation with a soundbite never answered. Always quick to call the media so they can get camera pix walking the perb across the street.
Perfect soundbites.
I think the KC voters don't want yet another seasoned politician or else they'll just get another soundbite queen like Claire McCaskill.
We need much more ethical motivation from the next generation of politicians. And the more the big parties support primary candidates, the more wary you should be of them! Make them PROVE THEY ARE NOT SOLD OUT TO BIG CORPORATE INTERESTS!
the only way i would sleep with megan fox it to rip her clothes off like she is doing in this pic and violate her in every hole against her will. if she liked it then my dick would get soft. bitch has toe thumbs! I'd treat her like kara kopt.. er...never mind.
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno is signing up the best political clients in town.
ReplyDeleteRiederer flips more than a fish on a ship's deck. Deb would be the best choice for mayor.
ReplyDeleteDeb couldn't win Mayor, even if the election was held only in the Northland.
ReplyDeleteVote Burke.
2:16 BURKE?? You're a hoot! I guess you forgot about Renaissance North - (Indiana & 152) where the lonely houses finally had to be torn down...ask him how much money he made on that disaster. And while we're talking money ask how much he sucked off of Port Authority and LCRA and....well, just ask him how much of your tax dollars he's taken.
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:36... did those houses actually get to the point of construction where there was anything to be torn down? Your points are right on!
ReplyDelete10:38 yes they did, had to drive by them everyday - all boarded up looking like the inner city.
ReplyDeleteNobody gives a shit about Renaissance North. Most northlanders don't know it exists.
