TKC FRIDAY NIGHT POWER RANKINGS!!!

While most of Kansas City remained frightened of local African-American teens there were still rather brave people in this cowtown making important power plays.

In an even more impressive display than Bar Refaeli posing with Jersey Shore dudes, check out the most influential, gully, and powerful people in Kansas City this week:

POLITICOS

1. Airick L. West - The New School Board President completed his School Board Election power play this week. It might be all downhill from here but we should at least celebrate his moment of triumph.

2. Jason Kander - His ethics work is still quietly moving forward and tougher talk from this politico demonstrates that he has finally found something to fight for in Missouri politics.

3. Councilman John Sharp - His power play noting complaints against the KCPD during the Plaza Riots, once again, demonstrated quite a bit of political savvy.

4. Sly James - Like it or not, he still keeps bringing in cash hand over fist and his fundraising prowess makes him one of the top Mayoral power players.

5. Stephene Moore - Golden Ghetto Democrat big timers are coming out of the woodwork to offer the lady her support. It's surprising to me since I think her candidacy is a joke but maybe a reflection of her power.

NEWSIES

1. DeAnn Smith - She'll be on KMBC's website and maybe breaking local news if her employers are smart enough to give her a bit of automony. Once again, of all newsies this week, her big move was a rather important Kansas City media power play.

2. Russ Ptacek - This local Anderson Cooper look-alike is still taking down HUGE stories and his reporting is turning heads around the city.

3. Darla Jaye - She was at the forefront of the tea party movement here in town and her ability to converse with the crowd makes her a powerful force in local Conservative circles.

4. Todd Norris - A camera dude for NBC Action News, his technical skill was showcased this week at the KC Filmfest and his creative work continues to garner fans.

5. Sandra Olivas - I hear that ¿Que Pasa, KC? keeps getting pretty great guests and is becoming "must watch" in the local Latino Community. Keep looking for good things from this local newsie.

LOCAL COALITIONS

1. Plaza Rioters - Organizing via text message, a collection of African-American teens have put all of Kansas City on edge and this town still is trying to work to prevent violence.

2. Local Teabaggers - Full of contradictions and hypocrisy they still had a decent showing this week, even if it might have been their last stand.

3. Troy Shulte Fans - Supporters of the Acting City Manger pulled off a great power play this week as they got rid of Water Services Director Bernardo Garcia without much hassle.

4. Anti-P&L District Gay Activists - There was pushback from P&L folks but this group keeps fighting online and against the outright monetization of local LGBT culture.

5. The Liberty Restoration Project - Protesting surveillance all over Kansas City, this group is keeping busy and demonstrating their increasing power.

This list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and is much stronger than Black teens fighting on The Plaza.

  2. For future reference, Russ DOES NOT look like Anderson Cooper. Just sayin.

  3. Tony...what's up with the Strip Trolley deal. Got tired of waiting for one in Brookside. The ticket seller wanted us to pay $15 bucks to ride on a bus. Some kind of ripoff i guess.

  4. You do have your daze, tony when youre really good.

And I agree with you about Bar!

I'm glad you see the tea baggers for what they are, despite that you need to suck up to them and Darla. Did you notice that there was little or NO publicity to the Grand Hostess in the blogosphere? Else I just missed it. Why was that? Did she suck or was she just too self promoting and nobody wanted to play into her scam?

I dunno, I didn't go. but I just didn't see her anywhere and mostly I just wanted to see how fat she's gotten. Haven't seen a single pix of her anywhere. Maybe she and KMBZ just aren't the hot stuff they'd like to be. Anybody got a link to the great emcee?

BTW, was this a BZ event or did the lower rated Chris Stigall get a piece of this event as well?

  5. If being a race-baiting, sexist, ugly creep makes you a politico, then John Not-So-Sharp is terrifically qualified.

  6. Tony you never put yourself on this list. Might as well.
