Rather KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS are in the know regarding the upcoming the Downtown Hotel Economic Impact Report . . . There's even talk that Council dude Ed Ford is specifically working to keep this file away from TKC Readers.
It'll be public soon enough, I already know what it's going to say . . .
CITY HALL IS PUTTING TOGETHER PROPAGANDA FOR A HOTEL DEVELOPER WITH A GREAT MANY PHONY PROJECTIONS!!!
Kansas City was wrong about the P&L District, The Sprint Center is still empty and getting older every day and now this latest upcoming failure is being sold as a "must have" or "the final piece" for pie-in-the-sky development aspirations but it's really just a great many biz people looking for a handout who should have a hard time talking about this deal with a straight face if they had any dignity.
And yes, word is Kansas City Political Consultant Kim Carlos is drawing just a bit of cash from all of this hoopla . . . Even if it's just indirectly.
So, after the Downtown Renaissance never happened I wonder if Kansas City is going to have the discipline to say NO to a shiny, new sales pitch. It's funny that this kind of white welfare doesn't have the same stigma as support for the poor and disenfranchised.
I'm actually looking forward to this pitch if only to see which Council people are so misguided, silly, naive and on the take to support such an obvious boondoggle. Cindy Circo, we're all looking at you.
Oh just face it. We need a downtown 1,000 hotel or two to support our convention industry. How we pay for it is a moot point, apparently.
ReplyDeleteCarlos is doing everything indirectly now. She is scared of the reputation she has earned but she just cannot turn down the money.
ReplyDelete$40K to Cindy Circo's campaign consultant Kim Carlos is neither indirect nor immaterial.
ReplyDeleteCheck out The Pitch coverage of when the kickback was uncovered:

Where is law enforcement?

ReplyDeleteWe built the convention center to get conventions. Then we paid for The Phillips and The President to get conventions.
ReplyDeleteThen we built the PnL to get conventions.
Now we have to build another hotel to get conventions.
At some point we have to accept that we are not losing conventions due to lack of things to do or places to stay. We are losing conventions because given the choice of cities, KC just really isn't that exciting.
Tony please link to the story about Carlos getting the 40K. This is serious.
ReplyDeleteI think it is Carlos more than Circo who deserves the attention on this corruption matter. Circo appears to be a well-meaning but stupid puppet for Kim to make dance.
ReplyDeleteYeah Tony I think we need to hear more about the Kim Carlos angle on this, she seems to be everywhere there is public money to be had.
ReplyDeleteAnon 2:48 said it right. The only thing a midwest city has going for it with conventions is location. Every city in the US is chasing conventions and they have become hugely unprofitable. The smart cities get out of the convention business and start focusing on their real business, the ones who pay taxes, not suck them up.
