TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! RAMPANT CITY HALL TALK ASSERTS: KANSAS CITY COUNCILMAN TERRY RILEY UNDER INVESTIGATION!!!
The word is out.
Numerous phone calls last night and chatter about surprising confessions during depositions reveal that City Hall is abuzz on the subject of Councilman Terry Riley.
It's no secret:
ALL OVER CITY HALL THERE IS TALK THAT KANSAS CITY COUNCIL DUDE TERRY RILEY IS UNDER INVESTIGATION!!!
TKC is posting this news so it won't be a surprise when the other news outlets transcribe details from press release copy.
From Perfect Output to Citadel Plaza there are a great many controversial civic issues from which Council Dude Riley could draw heat.
But it's a fact that most City Hall insiders are are considering Councilman Riley's political fate at this moment.
Just this afternoon I had a chat with a real City Hall insider Puck, who strangely speaks in the 3rd person. Here's a quote: "Puck is saddened, but not really surprised. When one's ego and ambition outstrip their abilities, their motives and actions are often questionable."
That's harsh but it's not like I haven't heard that sentiment expressed countless time previously from many different people. The fact is, I like Councilman Riley despite my disagreement with some of his decisions. Still, from what I hear, this investigation could rock City Hall and taint this entire City Council, Mayor Funky and the so-called "Orange Revolution" that was promised during last campaign.

I know, I have that problem myself. Get to the point, don't be afraid to go back in an hour or two later, and RE-edit AND DELETE the rambling garbage that you notice after seeing it less familiar. I do.
My best work is probably 4 hours after my original post... and unless it's during morning login, most people will see my BETTER stories, not my first draft when I pressed POST prematurely!
TV people can't do that, but they have producers to clean up their copy before six pm.
We bloggers could ALL USE EDITORS, but few of us have them between our keyboard and web publication!
The dead tree press, as you call them, tends to be more professional. They have clean up artists to intercept our excesses!
Sure, I hate copy editors, but they do really bring clarity when I'm being too emotional! So I appreciate them, resentfully.
This isn't new . . . although the timing is interesting given how much Terry is bullying everyone on the council to set up a CIMO-like department. It's not enough for him to simply streamline the process -- he wants a whole department. His explanations are lame. For instance, he says the Acting City Manager said a department would be ok, which is true -- but the CM also said not having a separate department would be better. Why, then, is Terry practically ready to burst a blood vessel over having this separate department?

9:25... he is ready to burst a blood vessel because he has someone he wants to hire as the new head of CIMO. Then TR can control the contracts, which is also what he wants. He makes the Heavies happy, and the Heavies donate for him to run for Jackson Co. legislature. That is also why he coveted and demanded to be head of the T&I committee... he can now control the billions of dollars in water contracts and award them to his pals at a local engineering firm.
ReplyDeleteWasn't it creative and intelligent of the mayor to place TR on the T&I committee and give him all of that control?
Any council member who votes for CIMO is complicit in this entire ethical and potentially legal quagmire. The council has a few days to wake up and vote no. We'll see what they do, but my guess is the same Stupid Six that voted against firing Wayne will also vote for CIMO.
Wonder where TR will be residing in a year's time.

ReplyDeleteWhy do we allow blacks to hold any position of authority in this town? The VAST majority of them end up being investigated, convicted or suspected of nefarious deeds. I'm not saying whitey is better (erm... funk ftl) but for fucks sake man in KC black+city council= felon.

ReplyDeleteOdds are he'll beat the wrap become a political consultant and be living in Leawood before he's through. Good for him. He's actually a little cleaner than Hazley, Hernadez, Threat and Clever and scores of others before him.

I don't think it's typical. This is the exception to the rule. One bad apple makes us think all council members are bad. Not really.

I won't say this is BS, but I will say that since the year 2000, not a week has gone by that I haven't heard someone - usually someone who claims to be "in the know" or who other folks think is an insider - say Riley is "under investigation" or "about to be indicted." And it hasn't happened yet. So let's just say I'm skeptical and that "insiders" talking about Riley being investigated is about as newsworthy as the sun rising in the morning.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how little most of you know about Councilman Riley. And it is easy for people to spread rumor and lies especially undercover. Impress the readers and tell us who "Puck" is. Or better let do some real journalism and actually get your facts straight.

Any council member trying to retain their seat, it will be harder to run as an incumbent.
Sad to say, it will also hurt the chances of all minorities. There are a lot of Granny Semlers out there who are way too lazy to think past race, the stupid, pea brained bastards. The only thing this will not impact is funk'd. Can't nothing raise that dead man.
Toadstool - you're wrong. The rest of the council can stand on their merits, except for a few who have no merit, but that is no different in any race at any given time. It is simply not fair to lump 13 people together as one entity.
ReplyDeleteAnon. 2:03... on the contrary, many of us know a good deal about Terry Riley. We know he lies, he is a bully and a thug, he is a foul-mouthed person who loves to try to intimidate and threaten others. He can be equated to an abusive spouse... he beats on you one minute and then tries to play kiss and make up the next. I've been on the receiving end of Riley's personality, as have others I know, and it is a shared opinion that he is nothing but a two-bit hood.

ReplyDeleteThere's nothing new about this. I've posted many times about Terry "King Pin" Riley wrong doing with Perfect Output. Wayne Cauthen should be investigated and through in jail on that one as well. Let's recap, Terry Riley and Wayne Cauthen pushed a multi-million dollar contract in the laps of Perfect Output when in fact other bids come in around $750,000 or so. It was said that Perfect Output was going to provide other services so there bid was higher.... Here's the rub, I actually read city documents that stated that there was no change in services provided from the previous contract. THEY LIED! I'm sure Terry and Wayne got a nice littel kick back on that one. Oh, guess who else voted for Perfect Output? None other than Al "the puppet" Brooks. And if I'm not mistaken, the guy who runs Perfect Output was tired to a scandal involving Blue Cross of Kansas City and the city council. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree... and guess what... he's black.
