The Star Just Discovered The Black United Front Marilyn Simmons/Ajamu Webster/Spark Bookhart Slate!!!

Congratulations To The Star . . . People involved in the community and this blog have been talking about the Spark Bookhart "Success Circle" for more than a month and The Star is just reporting about it.

Two slates of candidates now vie for KC school board seats

Candidates, you may find it pays to RSVP

Because I'm a blogger, I have my favorites but TKC doesn't do endorsements.

MEANWHILE, IT'S REALLY DISAPPOINTING TO SEE THE STAR SLANT THEIR COVERAGE IN FAVOR OF THEIR PICKS FOR SCHOOL BOARD DESPITE THE FACT I PRETTY MUCH AGREE WITH THEM!!!

In this instance it's exceedingly clear The Star is pushing their agenda and not reporting news . . . They're no better than the average blogger. I'd probably be more upset if I didn't agree with their choices for the most part.

Even worse, TKC Readers were discussing about Spark Bookhart's antics last month. The timing of The Star's coverage is simply a ploy to influence the election.

It's yet another instance of the paper-or-record trying to push their opinions on everyone else despite the fact that fewer and fewer people are taking their newspaper.

  1. Carlos wants School District Cash4/1/10, 7:14 AM

Is it any worse than the Kim Carlos slate?

Kim's slate consist of Kyleen Carroll, Crispin Rea Jr. and Joseph Jackson. Do we really want three school district members owing their jobs to Kim Carlos if they are elected?

Kim Carlos and her husband refuse to even live in the KC School district eventhough her husband has to live in KC because he is a firefighter. But Kim Carlos still thinks she is fit to decide who serves on the KC School District board.

So we must ask: How much does Kim want to steal from the KC School District?

You know that the lobbyist behind the proposal for a publicly funded and privately owned one thousand room hotel, and the Tomahawke annexation does not do anything for free or for the good of the public.

  2. In this election we will find out if Spark Bookhart is a fraud which many believe he is. He, Ajamu Webster and Linwood Tauheed have already sold out the black community with their alliance with Funkhouser, the most racially devisive Mayor in our history. Spark has been "living" off his association with the Obama campaign. Well,he was just a bit player plus Obama lost Missouri. So lets see if he win this election for the anit-Covington, pro more contracts for Linwood, Ajamu, Ron Hunt at the expense of the kids, campaign.

  4. The star started reporting probably because they are going buy some ads.

  5. The Sanchez piece is the most onesided, agenda pushing commentary I have seen from the Star in 34 years. She and Mark Zieman should be ashamed of themselves.

Of course, the assumption is that the public is so gullable as to take their word about what's best. This is the same group that pushed the Funkhouser ticket the last time around.

What I see from my research is a real estate and contract grab involving Crosby Kemper and the Downtown Coucil, the development attorney Dave Franze of Stinson Morrision and the Greater Chamber of Commerce, two engineering companies in HNTB and Burns & McDonnell, along with the JE Dunn Construction Company. The reward, will be the theft of the 1211 McGee property, control of the $17 million in facilities bonds, and a project management contract for closing the buildings and building improvements for the three firms that provided the most campaign contributions to the the West continuing political committee.

Much like the previous Funkhouser endorsement, I predict we will be sorry for taking the advice of an agenda driven newspaper that won't publish the facts. The connections are quite apparent to those of us who don't mind doing our own research.

Please do not give Kim Carlos at least three votes on any School District contract!

  7. How does one "live off" association with the Obama campaign? I imagine that doesn't pay too well.

Better yet, how is this guy a fraud? What is it that he's been pretending to be/do? Enlighten us.

  8. Tony:

I have got to commend you for your coverage on the school board race. Different colleagues keep sending me stuff about the school board elections since its getting down to the wire. I am being begged and bombarded with emails and on Facebook asking for my time, money and votes. I have donated all of the above.

Bottom Line: Spark Bookhart does not know how to organize a boyscout meeting let alone a political campaign. Which is why he performed so poorly as a Deputy State Director for Missouri for the Obama campaign. He was never qualified for that post neither were many of the "paid" field organizers. So It is of no surprise that his Kansas City Black United Front slate of candidates have raised very little money, have no corporate backing, next to no community backing and not one major media outlet's endorsement because they have burned so many bridges among the black, white, Hispanic, business, political and academic communities throughout the city its not even funny. Hopefully this election will mark the end of incompetence, corruption and dysfunction that has plagued the public school system in this city for three decades. Although I have nothing against them personally, I believe Hughlon and Hill are political puppets for special interest groups, but I'm still proud of all of the young school board candidates who have stepped up to assume leadership roles in this city. I hear that Craig Bland is working hard to wash away the stench from Freedom Inc. left on that organization by it previous leadership. Time will tell. But we really don't need any more Bishop Tindalls, Fuzzy Thompsons, Gwen Grants, Clinton Adams, Ron Hunts, Linwood Tauheeds and Ajamu Websters organizing a lynch mob to oust people who aren't puppets willing to pay with hefty contracts for useless services that do little or nothing to benefit the students or teachers.

  9. Also, this Natalie Lewis person has been strategically placed on the ballot as a write in candidate to split the vote in the Subdistrict 4 race to help Linwood Tauheed defeat Joseph Jackson. I read somewhere that she works for Kauffman Scholars--the same place Cokethea Hill used to work. This Lewis lady is more than likely in on the Black United Front Slate scheme. Hopefully the public will see through this and not fall for it.

I like Rose Bell, the last thing we need is for her and Dr. Peterson to split the votes and cost Carroll, Jackson and Rea to lose the election. This is not about self-aggrandizement and gain. This about the kids and the teachers who educate them. WHEN Carroll, Jackson and Rea win next week, the board will represent the diversity of the student body in the KCMSD as it should be. This is not about Black and White. They are using the race card to divert the public's attention from the real issues. They are using the race card to deflect the focus off of the fact that there are certain people who have been robbing this district for years and now that Dr. Covington has come to clean house, they are out for his blood and any board members who back him. This is about right and wrong, not race.

  10. Amen Yancy. We are on the verge of finally bringing true change to Kansas City. I hope Spark uses his lil money to fix the bump on the back of his neck.
