From the website: "The Chatham Apartments is the proposed redevelopment of the Chatham Hotel located at 3701 Broadway, in Kansas City, Missouri. This historical building is located in Midtown which is experiencing significant redevelopment and investment with the majority of the projects on Broadway. The Chatham Hotel is currently one of the last properties in need of renovations to finally secure the Broadway corridor."
To be completely forthright, I don't really care but I'm certain it'll one day soon be in line to get a taxpayer subsidy if middle-class people become exceedingly interested.

Screw the Chatham! That place is long overdue to be torn down. They should demo Old Hyde Park along with it. It's a crime infested dump filled with low lifes. Midtown would be better off.
ReplyDeleteThat's the neighborhood full of vile, horrible people who hate Mexicans, Blacks and the poor. They're also well known for their nasty fights with each other on the internets. The Chatham is doomed.
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm impressed with the maturity level of the previous 2 bloggers from April 27th. You sound like the people I know you're trying to denegrate. Let's take the comments above 5th grade level. Old Hyde Park has evolved extensively over the last 10 years, and although I'm fully aware the old leaders of the Old Hyde Park HOA were "contentious" to put it very nicely, there have been alot of others working behind the scenes to improve a once beautiful area. What brings people back to live in Midtown is not great schools, or low crime, because we have neither, but the historic old architecture. This city has been short-sited over the decades in tearing down the best of what we had, and we will never get architecture as grand in the spaces of these old buildings once they are torn down. Why do you think we have bombed out corridors like Main and much of broadway? Bending to the developers of the time who were here to make a quick buck and skip back to the burbs. The irony is that out in South Johnson County they strive to build transitional architecture that mimics the grandness of pre-war era, and we tear ours down and put up cinder block structures or ugly modern amidst the older, which side by side looks like a badly decorated house. Save the Chatham and the majority of the surviving pre-war structures, and tear down the mistakes of the 60's and build infill that re-harmonizes the corridor from the Plaza to downtown. The only strength we have in Midtown is our remaining beautiful architecture. Let's not lose any more.
