NICKELBACK AT THE SPRINT CENTER TONIGHT EPITOMIZES KANSAS CITY'S DOWNTOWN RENAISSANCE FAIL!!!

In just a few moments Nickelback will take the stage at The Sprint Center and put the final nail in the coffin of any hopes for a "Downtown Renaissance" in Kansas City.

Hundreds of millions of dollars, political fighting and so much animosity has all come down to one of the crappiest bands in the world playing for local dweebs. Make no mistake, this is a big deal because it typifies Kansas City's mediocrity.

MASSIVE DEBT AND POLITICAL DYSFUNCTION IN KANSAS CITY WAS ALL FOR THE SAKE OF TONIGHT'S NICKELBACK CONCERT!!!

The logic holds up, think about it:

There's (still) no anchor tenant for The Sprint Center so concerts like this one are supposed to take up the slack for a broken promise.

Patrons from these concerts are in turn supposed to enjoy the P&L District and frequent so many other Downtown, taxpayer subsidized attraction. Actually, Nickelback fans are exactly the kind of dorks that would be impressed by the Live Block.

Heck, there's even a hope that somebody at a Nickelback concert will enjoy their experience so much that they'll decide to move Downtown and maybe purchase one of the many tax-abated condos now sitting empty.

Or maybe dweebs from not-so-far-away could one day stay the night at the new, proposed and KC owned Downtown Hotel.

CLEARLY, TONIGHT REVEALS THAT KANSAS CITY PLANS FOR A DOWNTOWN RENAISSANCE ARE ABOUT AS HORRIBLE AS NICKELBACK!!!

Sadly, this show must go on and there's never going to be an end to local developers begging for taxpayer cash in a manner that's just as formulaic, out-of-tune and embarrassing as Nickelback.

Or maybe I'm being too pessimistic about local development schemes and Canadian alt-rock bands. I guess it's not totally fair to make such brash judgments until AFTER I get back from the show.

  4. ?Fail is a stupid word. Quit using it, Tony. It's trite.

Don't use trite words and phrases. Like dont you wish you could stuff into a box anyone who says "... think outside the box"? That is SOOOOO five years ago!

Don't use trendy words like 'fail' or 'anyhoo', 'anyhow', 'to wit'. All stupid overused words and phrases.

It's as if you phrase headlines so you can USE these UN-trendy words! Stop it.

To be a better writer, try two books.

One's about writing tightly, "The Elements of Style"

and the other's for legislation writers and others, to write like we talk, by Rudolf Floesh, "How to Write, Think, Speak Effectively".

Brought to you by the guy who wrote "Why Johnny Can't Read". Go on EBAY to find them if you want to write better.

  9. Might be trite to lecture people who keep doing irritating things, but hey.

Shall we have to balls to tell them or just endure their stupidities forever?

I know the problem. I have a trailer trash sister in law who keeps saying 'take a pitcher', or 'did you see this pitcher of my kid', and after ten years, I still can't tell her that pitchers are what you pour beer out of, and PICK-chers, are what you get from Kodak.

So tell me. Would you correct your dumb ass sister in law or have her say to her kids and everyone else its 'pitcher'?

I'll learn a lot about you by how you answer this simple but common question!

  10. Tony is just mad that the Massage Parlors are closed. When you live in Mom's basement, it is tough to receive "Happy Endings" from someone else.

  11. Tony's right on this one - they blow big time.

  12. RM if you don't like it don't read it.

  13. Isn't it good that some economic activity is going on? I'm sure they could make lots more money if they developed in JC but that's not the point. Yes as a business, the model fails but I think the point is to save a city drowning in economic disparity.P.S.not a fan of nickleback.

  14. Don't like it, don't read it?

Is that like if you don't like Arizona's laws go to New Mexico? Or better yet OLD Mexico?

Or is that like if you don't like Mexico, sneak under the fence and head north?

  15. They may and do suck, but the show sold out you douche. How is that a downtown fail?
