Until there's another riot, there's really nothing but trivia to report. Just like some great photos of Rosa Acosta, we're at the back end this tale for the moment. (har)
Still, there's just enough juice left in this story to fight over and recent developments are worth at least linking.
Check out my faves . . .
Kansas City Almost-Mayor Alvin Brooks encourages responsible parenting in light of recent Plaza riots. It's worth noting that's a solution that doesn't really cost the taxpayers a dime.
Meanwhile . . . There's going to be an upcoming Kansas City summit on youth violence wherein a great many people (including some officials) will learn the difference between a text message and a tweet.
Alonzo Washington notes that this story is going national and recaps his TV interview. And what's interesting to me is that local media and authorities are seeking advice from Washington and this whole mess shows a huge disconnect between the vast majority of this town and the African-American youth that strangely terrifies so many.
Developing . . .
This weekend could be the final chapter for many of us who have been optimistic on race relations and supportive of Kansas City Missouri government. Public safety and a pleasant environment must trump all of the political BS. This is it.
ReplyDeleteagree.
ReplyDelete"Strangely terrifies?" Did you watch those videos, Taco-T? Apes in trees, cannibalizing morality, rending good black reputations into raw meat. If this happens again, I saw bring in Robert Duvall and the napalm.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I agree with all that. Maybe they should just abolish puberty and keep em little with missing front teeth.
ReplyDeleteOr let the cops use their batons and making those missing front teeth permanent.
The children need to stay in their part of town and also stay in their houses.
By the way, Rosa's got a very large caboose!
Alvin Brooks is now on the Police Board and he needs to remember that when he is making comments.
ReplyDeleteYUMMY!!!
ReplyDeleteBrooks is what a real activist looks like Alonzo!
ReplyDeleteTony, are you going to include "White Riot" on Saturday night's playlist?
ReplyDeleteAlvin wants responsible parenting? Most of these kids have no idea who their parents are.
ReplyDeleteGreat advice.
Kudos to Mr. Brooks for his fearless willingness to speak the truth about one of the root causes of the Plaza mob scene--bad parenting. KC was the site of one of the most expensive fixes ever attempted, the KC school district desegregation litigation that spanned many years and resulted in court orders ultimately dedicating BILLIONS of dollars to create 15 new schools and countless improvements, with the goal of buoying up a generation of disadvantaged minority children, in the hope spectactular facilities and a stellar education would give them a better future. We all know how THAT turned out. When a culture fails to invest itself---NOT just other people's money--in its children's daily lives and fails to foster in them the kinds of values and perseverance necessary for success in business and in life, all the money in the world won't help. WHERE WERE THE PARENTS of the kids who descended on the Plaza? The same place they were when they were handed their costly, shiny new school district: Nowhere. This is NOT meant to excuse the behavior of the kids; far from it!! Where there is a threatening situation and violence, it must be dealt with by law enforcement swiftly and surely. Just because the person threatening my peace and safety is 14 does not deprive me, or the police, from removing that threat. Time-outs and polite words don't work with such individuals. Tony, there is nothing "strange" about a person feeling "terrified" by a mass gathering of hundreds of youth, especially when it is now apparent the gathering was planned and among some of them, at least, the intent--and the result--was to disrupt and intimidate. BTW, my family and I have Plaza dinner plans this Sat. and we FULLY intend to go through with them. We will not allow ourselves to be made uneasy or threatened by anyone and we will take steps to insure our safety and defend ourselves as necessary.
ReplyDeleteToo bad less famous people can say the same thing but not get 'kudos'.
ReplyDeleteRadioman, agreed. I will expand my kudos to anyone, sung or unsung, who sees and speaks the truth about this parenting situation.
ReplyDeleteDEar Mr. Tony: Thanks for your posting about the Plaza riot. I have a message to all of the hotheads in this town of whatever race: I have done a lot of field research in some of the worst war zones in the world, and I have personally seen a lot of violence up close and personal. It never fails: Those most eager of it have never seen it. The people in town of all races dumping fuel on this fire are acting in a criminally irresponsible way and should be ashamed of themselves. ReplyDeleteYou can't legislate parenting, but you can legislate the safety nets in place that only continue to placate this family cycle. The parents and the kids lack personal responsibility. The nanny state prevails and parental supervision fails.
ReplyDeleteI heard some Hispanic gangbangers grabbed a white woman's purse during the riots....
ReplyDeleteBut most of the riot was because of the pavement apes. We need to fence off an area of downtown KCK and ship all the pavement apes from the metro area there. I'm fed up with this.

I'm afraid we are seeing the beginning of this black on white domestic terrorism. The sad thing is, nothing will be done to crack down on this violence. The black community leaders are already trying to tie the hands of the police department. The police DID NOT OVER REACT. Innocent citizens cried for help against this black gang that planned this assault on whites in this community. The fact that they are planning another assault should make the punishment even more severe. What the black community leaders should be telling these thugs is that people have THE RIGHT TO DEFEND themselves... AND WE WILL. No jury is going to convict someone for taking a life when you have 15 on 1. It will never happen. Plus, these degenerates are stupid enough to broadcast that they will continue to engage in these assaults. God help them when the backlash comes.
ReplyDeleteLet's send in MS13 to clean up the streets.
ReplyDeleteSomeone please tell me, does Alonzo always look like he has a gallon of used oil on the top of his head??
ReplyDeleteAre you sure Alvin Brooks is a Police Commissioners I checked the PD website and he is not shown as one. ????
ReplyDeletehttp://www.kcmo.org/police/BoardofPoliceCommissioners/CommissionerBios/index.htm
Are those ASSCHEEK implants?
ReplyDeleteAlvin Brooks IS NOT a Police Commissioner.
ReplyDeleteAlvin Brooks should have practiced what he preaches to his own family and a few lives would have been saved. Tired of the old fart preaching and then trying to get killers off the hook. Brooks hates the Po Po no matter what he says. All the convicts shout his name when he visits the jail just like an old Johnny Cash Concert.
ReplyDeleteAl, get me out, call me, I am a victim of the white man. Light a candle for me brother.

ReplyDeleteToo many teens gathered together in one place is never a good thing, no matter what their race. Group decisions are generally poor with a lot of one-upmanship going on. Even 'good' kids do stupid stuff in the name of group acceptance. Parents of all races have abdicated their responsibilities. But, please remember, this has been an on-going problem, just look at some of the movies from the 30's and the 40's. KC needs to ask Independence about this issue as they managed to stop the 'cruising of Noland Road' by undesirable elements. Unfortunately, the average kid was punished too!
ReplyDeleteBlacks ruin everything they touch. Every house, street, block, neighborhood and city they live in turns to shit. They are literally cockroaches and they only way to deal with them is with force. Lock 'em up, kill them, hang them from trees. They don't understand anything else. When they gather in large groups like this no one is safe. They will attack anyone they perceive as weaker than themselves just like a pack of wild dogs. I'm calling on every metro area male with a backbone. Come down to the plaza on Saturday night. Defend the weak with a show of force. Don't be afraid to cripple or maim just because these are young people, they will learn no other way. Defend your community and your people against these racist bastards. KC should fill the fountains with cotton balls.
