There are still quite a few good people working at The Kansas City Star.
However, just like any other place, most Star employees are absolute insufferable d-bags; very much like Aaron Barnhart according to the stories I've heard via so many of his colleagues as of late.
Quite recently, Bottom Line Communications wrote up a summary of the recent back and forth that D-bag Barnhart and TKC have been enjoying and as a (lame) reply the Kansas City Star TV writer reran his silly contention that he doesn't pay attention to this local media slapfight (that I'm winning) despite the fact that he's been writing speedy responses which are far more interesting than whatever tripe he's working on for the so-called paper-of-record.
As for his swipe at Bottom Line, just about every newsie in town knows that John Landsberg has been Kansas City's media referee for quite some time -- The blog has one of the most influential audiences in all of this cowtown. In fact, Bottom Line has a great recent write-up of upcoming Star Layoffs that I hope include Barnhart since the dude is far more interested in blogging than anything concerning his job that could easily be replaced with content from a new wire.
Your not local media, you write a blog.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Aaron Barnhart is a little TV watching bitch!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many people go specifically to the paper to read his column. People have to purposely go to Landsberg's website.
Who would you trust? John Landsberg or a glorified TV critic?
barnhart's an ass, and not only to his coworkers - he's an ass to his readers, too.
ReplyDeletethinks he's all that and a bag of chips just because he watches television.
John Landsberg is indeed a much more esteemed media voice in Kansas City than Barnhart. That Barnhart would take such a childish slap at Landsberg is probably an indication of the inseciurity he's feeling this week waiting for yet another shoe to drop at The Star.
ReplyDeleteThis time McClatchy's leadership has apparently dictated that Zieman finally get around to cleaning out the editorial deadwood (do they have anything else), so it should be an interesting week.
If it were not for TKC, would anyone read the Bottom Line blog? I think those of us who have been around the local interwebs long enough know that Leawood John is a third rate hack best known for melting down multiple times on nearly every local message board.
ReplyDeleteCue LJ meltdown in 3..2..1..

ReplyDeleteOh God, noooooo!
I like how Barnhart calls Tony on to the carpet for being a fool and Tony's response is to be a bigger fool.
ReplyDeleteObviously TKC has less class than previously thought.
TKC has plenty of class and I admire Tony B. for having the cojones to take on self-important TV turd Aaron Barnhart. Why wasn't HE laid off? God, his column is a bore.
ReplyDeleteC'mon girls. Enough of this. This isn't a media slap fest, it's a BLOG slapfest.
ReplyDeleteBlogs have yet to earn to join the 'media'. Not local ones anyway.
My view is that Lansberg isn't so much after Tony's audience. Landsberg's people are more likely to be interested in the media as advertisers or corporate victims of interviewer interruptus, which requires some media training. I too did a bit of that years ago, and there's nothing worse that being a virgin walking into the biker bar of the media. Government execs could stand to go through a course he might offer if they get media calls for interviews.
I expect he teaches streets marts when it comes to media interviews... and issues like when to go live and when not to.
Tony's audience is also the media, but mostly government types.
Trashing Landsberg is petty when he's doing his job. I don't notice he is wrong, unlike the rest of us bloggers who should run every tip through a local SNOPES, if there WAS one! And without verifying through an independent source, there ISN'T one. aND WITHOUT VERIFying, that's not journalism either. That's just a gossip who's got a blog.
Tony's place is mostly second hand opinions and inside baseball, when he's not just being a valuable linksite. I tend to read him for his links to all newsy since I'm not much on local newscasts, their commercials hype, et al.
Me, I'm an opinion guy, I admit it. I'm not out there digging anymore as a working journalist who has to air all sides. I get to be opinionated now as a private blogger.
But I do respect bloggers who listen and verify before publishing.
Barnhardt's an entertainment writer and shouldn't be jacked with. Moreover, as petty as Tony can be related to the mayor and others he doesn't fancy, he'd be the last guy to call someone else an asshole. Frankly, I don't think its good material to say who's an asshole and who's not, unless it causes a lot of good people to quit.
I think it would be better if Aaron did more local stuff on radio and TV, but since he doesn't, I have the radio and TV boards and Bottom Line.
I'll leave it to Aaron to decide the difference between the media INSIDE BASEBALL, and the stuff that the general public reading the Star cares about.
I'd think he'd do more on local media, but, not my call. He's on the Star payroll and I'm not.
For example, many executives can be assholes to under-performers. I had never met a drill sergeant who I thought WASN'T and asshole when I was under him.
Mostly what amazed me was how they could yell at us while running backwards as we barely caught our breaths running forwards. I just hated authority and people who faired better than me, cuz I thought I was so goddam smart when I was young.
But if you're name's Tony Soprano or Donald Trump or Texas Tech's Mike Leach or so many others... well some do well being assholes, and some get fragged in a war zone!
(Fragged defined: murdered soldier or officer because another solder put a fragmentation grenade where it would explode... like in his bed or his car, usually to kill a petty, power hungry asshole superior officer!)
I hate radio man way more.
ReplyDeletenah, RadioMan cracks me up
ReplyDeletego back to radio please.
ReplyDeleteIt's all just entertainment. Lighten up! Shoot your mouth off. I do! Aint the Internet grand?
ReplyDeletePS... the way to not get dirtclods on the internet to hate you is to not say anything.
ReplyDeleteScrew them. They're just jealous because they can't put a half dozen sentences together that all make sense.
I say rag on. Unload. tell what you think. If morons find fault with that, just know that they're only jealous because they don't have any ideas of their own. And they're pissed off because YOU DO!
Ignore them. Probably can't read past the 4th grade anyway!
I have to wonder if you have ever experienced being downsized and to wish that on any one for any reason just seems out of bounds.
