Mayor Funky has alienated yet another local constituency and then condescended to them after the fact . . . That has been his M.O. since about 2007 but now every last person in this town is familiar with out stubborn, fumbling Mayor.
Here's a great report from KCTV5:
Funkhouser's Town Hall With Disabled Gets Heated
"Some in attendance asked why, on the 20th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, the city's ADA coordinator position was vacant and many city services inaccessible.
"You have to communicate to get political votes, a vote, to change the reality," Funkhouser said. 'I went to every budget hearing, virtually. I didn't hear any of you talking at the budget hearings.'"
The last statement from Mayor Funky reveals his overall failure to understand both elected office Representative Democracy. Running government from a "Majority Rules" approach is nothing more than a recipe for disaster . . . Which kind of explains a lot about The Funky Administration.
Ideally, politicos should have a core set of values, beliefs and principles which should inform their decisions and lead them to consult and take into account differing viewpoints when making decisions.
WHAT WE'VE SEEN OVER THE COURSE OF THE FUNKY ADMINISTRATION IS THAT KANSAS CITY'S MAYOR DOESN'T BELIEVE IN ANYTHING BUT HIS WIFE'S FEET!!!
He has shown us that he's willing to throw just about anybody under the bus to save his own neck and his pep talk to physically challenged residents is just another manifestation of pathological incompetence.
There's more to this ADA story and maybe we'll get into it later . . . But for a moment we've just seen another example of a politically crippled Mayor.
UPDATE FROM A RATHER AWESOME TKC TIPSTER:
"The city does not comply with the ADA law and recently replaced a coordinator who was respected by the community with someone with no experience whatsoever. I heard (perhaps just a made-up rumor) that the Department of Justice was investigating."
Food for thought and a sign that Kansas City is once again falling behind in our obligations to serve ALL of our diverse communities.
i'd buy that for a dollar.
ReplyDeleteAll politics for funk'd is alien. He holds meetings at his house which is not ADA, under-insured and convenient only to squit as she is afraid of th public spitting on her.The city attorney turns a blind eye. funk'd is putting this city at risk. Several lawsuits waiting to happen. There will be no "I was unaware of the situation" excuse for Beaufort to trot out.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet the remaining "Waynettes" (Ava Gardner, Thalia Cherry and Tracy McClendon) salaries would pay for most of the cost of complying with ADA. . . let's talk about what is "basic" services vs. "fluff" to keep the African-American council members "happy". What is sick situation.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why thinks are falling apart in KCMO city government is that all the managers are too busy backstabbing the mayor by being awesome TKC Tipsters.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing that could happen is if all managers are fired and KCMO outsources city services to Overland Park!
Radio Gloria STFU.
ReplyDeleteGloria is too powerful. And is Troy Schulte eating out of her hand?
ReplyDeleteThe best thing that could happen is if all managers are fired ....
ReplyDeletei agree
Radioman.. hey those voices in your head, dear, means your meds are off.
ReplyDeletereally Gloria, take off the aluminum foil, you are not a radio transceiver. Just your meds wearing off, no big thing. CVS has more refills.
Don't think too hard dear. Yes you screwed up, yes, you asked Pat "just how old are you?" when YOU were interviewing her for a possible job in the mayors office. Yes, you have told the guards not to let Pat on the 29th floor. Yes it could be considered just a fluke that the disability job in city hall that Pat held is currently unfilled....Yes you are a fuck up.
Happy Earth Day, feel free to stay out in space.
That title makes me laugh.
ReplyDeleteI guess I have to spam your site again tony, to help this morning who thinks I'm gloria. I will say I have better looking feet than you display here, even at my age.

The Mayor claimed to have been at 5of the 6 public budget hearings and this sweet blind lady with a fantastic Golden Retriever said im sorry but I must of missed you at the two I attended. In your face Mayor.
ReplyDeleteCrazy Glo has no power get real. The Bitch is a nut.
ReplyDeleteThese folks with extra needs are incredibly inspiring. They were very sincere and had genuine concerns and the Mayor came of as a bafoon. No kidding.
ReplyDeleteThe Mayor believes these folks should get out in numbers to speak out at budget hearings. Really, As a community we should champion there cause. After all it is law.It should go without saying every city improvement or redevelopment should have these Kansas Citians needs in mind.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't agree. They have already captured far more resources than their productivity deserves.
ReplyDeleteThey lay this guilt trip on us. America is vastly more generous to the least productive unfortunates than any other country, yet they want even more.
I think we've done plenty already through federal regulations related to handicap parking, social security benefits, etc.
If there are holes in the system, yes they need to be fixed. It's good that the government pays for treatments to men whose arms and legs and asses are blown off by IUD's. And that medical science is getting better.
But think about this. we have limited resource, the republicans are screaming about government spending, plenty of school districts can't afford basic education... and those who will never get a job want to get to the front of the line.
The Tea party types arent' the least bit interested in helping the handicapped or anyone else without a big bank account.
What IS this... the LOUDEST gets the money? OMG! Did you hear Rush on KMBZ today whining becasue teachers in Illinois ask, "Where's the money" (to keep them employed and to prevent the teacher student ratio less that 40 kids per teacher?)
So just what DO we Americans want of government? Keep the Teri Shaivo vegetables alive or spend the money on kids with potential?
The Illinois teachers ask where's the money? I'll tell you. It's being spent on contractors doing black ops and rebuilding arab countries!
Where are the republicans on these issues? Where to send the money? To Defense or Education? To loan money to Detroit since the banks can't anymore?
What hypocrisy!
Radioman, your hypocrisy is what is amazing. Obviously you weren't at this forum, or you would have known the agency who provided the forum works with people with disabilities to find employment...and not just bagging groceries and sorting recycling employment, but working with companies in the metro to understand that reasonable accommodations for college educated employees aren't that difficult and a person with a disability is just like anyone else. What is amazing is that the Mayor said the ADA LAW (not regulation, not idea, LAW)is a "good starting point" but if the money isn't there, then we have to fight to make the city follow a federal law. He said we should go to budget hearings and fight for money. Great idea! Tell me how to get INTO city hall when the accessibility is not there for a person with a wheelchair. The damn thing can't climb stairs no matter how much I want it to and the ramp that was at city hall was not replaced with the last renovations. Federal law dictates that cities over 50,000 have an ADA coordinator. KC does not and has not for a while now. And just so you know, we are not all vegetables waiting to die...we just want to be able to access everything that you are able to access.
ReplyDeleteRadioman is the Mayors wife Gloria Squitiro. It will be shown as fact very soon.
