Money Line From Congressman Cleaver's Written Statement on The Spitting Incident:
"But what will it say about us and our time, that on the heels of a monumental achievement so many were transfixed on the transgression of one yelling protester who unapologetically splattered my cheek with saliva?
For some, blinded by partisan fervor, nothing I can say here will thwart their conspiracy theories of the unfortunate episode. For those looking for a play-by-play account of the day, it won’t happen. There is no benefit to me or the nation."
It really doesn't get any clearer than that and I'm kind of disappointed that Cleaver was able to so easily sidetrack reactionaries with this non-event that was disputed in a clumsy and ineffective fashion. Sad that the GOP is arguing spit and not anything with even a bit of merit to the lives of so many working poor during the Great Recession.
Cleaver made this worse by refusing to talk about the incident.

ReplyDeleteWhen there's something to talk about, the media will chew on it for hours. When there isn't, they'll make up some controversy and talk about THAT until something better comes along.
They can't go black. Luckily, there's paparazzi seekers like Sarah Palin who quit her governor's job to be a Fox News Cheap shot. She was a TV sportscaster before politics. Truly made for TV!
Cleaver has better things to do but as we know, aggressive reporters won't take no for an answer and they hold the mic!
I'm not sure why I'm saying this on Tony's blog except to do him a favor and help him out. He could return the favor once in awhile but he doesn't need to. He's got Alonzo.
Cleaver is great. The guy can't be touched and it's because he's genuinely friendly and looking out for K.C.

Cleaver is a tool. He is also a master manipulator. He never comes "clean" about anything, be it is family's trip to Disney on the City dime, his car wash not paying taxes, or anything else since. Unfortunately, his district chooses not to see that and will no doubt re-elect the Rev however long he chooses to remain on the public dole.
