MAST is now part of the Fire Department.
Don't worry, there will be a great deal of disputes regarding billing.
They still don't have the pensions figured out.
In minority communities service has already been degraded . . . East of Troost complaints are mounting.
MAST Employees living outside of KC Proper have opened the floodgates to upcoming lawsuits from KCFD and KCPD so that these civil servants don't have to live within the City limits . . . Coming soon.
And there has been ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE SAVINGS PROMISED . . .
All things considered.
THIS COUNCIL AND MAYOR HAVE COMPLETELY SCREWED UP ONE OF THE BEST AMBULANCE SERVICES IN THE NATION AND THE RESULT PUTS EVERYONE IN KANSAS CITY IN JUST A BIT MORE DANGER!!!
Funny thing, I hear that even the rank and file are snickering at this move which (yet again) leaves local taxpayers holding the bill.
If possible, plan all your emergencies somewhere else.
What hasn't Funkhauser and our City Counsel screwed up?
ReplyDeleteSmokie the bear fu*ked this up.
ReplyDeleteI would love to live outside the City limits, bring on the lawsuits and change the charter!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget, the current CM and Local 42 President deserve some of the credit in this mess.
ReplyDeletethe following is from a well respected nurse I know and I want to thank him for writing this. The medical industry recognizes how much this affects us.
ReplyDeleteSTAND SILENT AT 47TH AND MAIN
TURN OFF THE FOUNTAIN LET THE WATER DRAIN
STOP TRAFFIC ON BROADWAY BLOCK I-35
LET THE DIRGE BLEE TOLL THAT WE ARE BARELY ALIVE
QUIET THE COUNCIL LET THE MAYOR BE STILL
THEY HAVE GIVEN US A VOID THAT WE BARELY CAN FILL
31 YEARS A GLORIOUS PAST
SO CHOKE OUT THE WORDS GOOD BYE TO MAST
GOOD BYE TO THE BEST.
YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE TILL ITS GONE.
Tony I don't understand where you get off saying the service in the minority communities has been degraded? Nothing has changed yet! Not until tomorrow at 7 am. Then we'll see. But saying that complaints are already mounting is just a scare tactic and you running your mouth. If you're saying there are current complaints its due to the current MAST formula.
ReplyDeleteLesa well said.
ReplyDeleteYou tried to further these unattributed scare tactics last week about the degradation of service. You, as I recall, were taken to the woodshed on it by the comments. Unlike the little bird that feeds you this gruel, the facts are contrary to your post.
ReplyDeleteAnd, because you obviously have a degree in journalism and not one in common sense or finance, there can be no "savings" when the takeover hasn't happened. So yes, none of the savings have manifested BECAUSE KCFD HASN'T TAKEN OVER YET.
I realize that you never let the facts get in the way of a good piece of fiction, but someday I have my hopes that you will be something more than a mouthpiece for special interests.
Nothing has changed yet!
ReplyDeleteThat's bullshit.
All top managment has left.
Smokey doesn't know what he's doing.
Firefighters only care about fired.
fires
ReplyDeleteTop managment like who?
ReplyDeleteWe don't need to duplicate srvice anymore, plus we need everyone on the same page, not in fighting like would have happened if "top managment" stayed.
Smokey integrated EMS into Lee's Summit Fire and they're just fine.
Fire fighters care about fire yes, but they care about people just like MAST folks do.
People need to relax and take a deep breath. If this system goes to shit, its because WE as responders let it.
Just read the KC Star article and I have a few comments. First- There are no white, priveleged EMT's or Paramedics. We all worked our way up and have paid our dues in this company. Mast had a scholorship program for minorities, not whites. That shoots that argument down. Second- We are EMT's and Paramedics. NOT ambulance drivers. We can't even get our own management to understand that. Being called an ambulance driver is disrespectful. We are highly trained. We didn't just jump on an ambulance and start this job. Third- I have worked with my fellow EMT's and Paramedics as well as the firefighters and I don't care if they are black or white. We work together just fine and putting us in the same room for training doesn't have anything to do with diversity. That statement was just strange. And finally-the new managment needs to understand how we work. We have people in charge who don't even understand what we do. RIP Mast.
ReplyDeleteWTH is that "white and privileged" thing in the article? I worked my ass off, went to college on my own dime AND went to EMT and Medic school WHILE I WAS IN COLLEGE.
ReplyDeleteI paid for it with high-interest student loans that I busted a nut to repay in the first year at MAST.
That wasn't given to me at all. I had to work for it.
This is to say nothing of the "ambulance driver" comment in the article either. I guess the keyboard monkey, aka reporter, doesn't understand what we do.
