They're not doing mine anymore. They're far too overpriced.
ReplyDeleteFor an ordinary return and for 2 states, CPA's will do em for half the price.
And once youre over 60, volunteers will do em at libraries for free.
Imagine that: free software, distributed by Internet, hurting a brick-and-mortar, job-producing, benefits-paying, pillar of the community!

ReplyDeleteI thin H&R has decided to be a blue star, high priced, fast and easy product... and then there are others who will do it for less.
Frankly I've used H&R Block for several years becaue I'm tired of KS and MO redoing my returns because I don't get it. But that peace of mind has been costly.
Lets face it, we who've used H&R Block are renting their software for $300+. True, I don't get audited. I think they have a rep with the govt because they play by the rules. Its a good way to keep the govt off our asses.
But there's a price for it. Fact is, they've allowed much fewer deductions that I would have claimed. Does keep me honest, but I sure pay through the nose!
I'm bout done with two state returns--which are horrible, so I don't really need their smart software. Taxes aren't that complicated for most folks...the IRS has done a good job simplifying. States could do a bit better.
Many years ago, I needed the "fast refund," so I took my CPA-prepared tax return to Jackson Hewitt, who of course had to redo it to conform with their software.
ReplyDeleteThey discovered that my CPA had me PAYING state tax, when in reality I was owed a refund.
I've been loyal to Jackson Hewitt ever since. I'm more than willing to pay for peace of mind - that's why I have a cell phone, car insurance, health insurance, house insurance, AAA, etc.
