Once again there's some rather embarrassing evidence that The Star doesn't know what it's doing online. Or rather, the folks who write for the paper are rarely captivating enough to capture an online crowd. To wit, let's note that The Star's Media "reporter" Aaron Barnhart is struggling to find an audience online . . . Mostly because his "journalism" is covered in the first two minutes of Entertainment Tonight. Barnhart's TV blog recently went bust and the sad evidence is still online. Now the Star newsie is doing a tumblr blog that has even less action. Even mildly popular tumblr accounts are reblogged, commented and at least seem busy . . . Barnhart simply blogs boring text . . . And that's even less entertaining than waiting for the print edition to show up on newsstands.

Actually, the main TypePad blog still exists, as you would have known had you exerted yourself enough to click on any of the links. The tumblr page is there just for an index page. I prefer it to TypePad's index page.
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for spelling my name correctly at least once so I could get the Google Alert and be reminded that TKC still exists.
just can't resist picking on Star employees can you, t? douche.
ReplyDeleteway to go aaron!
Owned................. :)
ReplyDeleteAs Tony is learning, Barnhart is quite a prick. He thinks he is too big to cover local TV and radio, but instead focuses on Conan O'Brien.
ReplyDeleteLoved the way he pretended not to read this site.
Aaron's blog hasn't had a comment all month.
ReplyDeleteWow.
i gave up on aaron's site because it used to be so sweet and simple and easy to navigate, and now you have to take a fucking tutorial to even learn how to get around it.
ReplyDeletenot worth it.
"if it ain't broke, don't fix it" sure doesn't apply to anything related to the Kansas City Star, does it?
Do I see a TKC comment in disguise? That's another thing. I think it's unethical to post fake responses to your own posts. Not accusing him of doing that but sometimes I'm suspicious he's priming the pump.
ReplyDeleteMe, I don't care about comments. I delete a third of them; they are few and lack of comments discourages comments.
It really is Aaron's perogative along with his newspaper strategists to decide whether to cover national entertainment or just announce the layoffs at local radio and TV. I think he could do more..not that I read him all taht often. Moreover if it makes BottomLine, it ought to be in his published column.
I wouldn't get all indignant if he doesn't spend much time on his blog. He is, after all, in mass media. Compared to the Star's coverage, his blog is a Post-It note in his cubicle.
And so are most all the blogs. I expect Tony doesnt' have that big an audience in unique visitors, but clearly he has all the movers, shakers and media people.
Tho I expect some hold their noses at his crudeness. he could class up his soft porn a little, I think.

About Aaron? Dunno Bernhardt may be a prick, maybe he just doesn't take cheapshot criticism. I tend to get pretty icy myself.
It's not being a prick to stick up for yourself when you're trashed in public. Ask yourself. IS IT?
And too, we bloggers really don't understand how SMALL our audience is, compared to mainstream media. I've been in the mainstream media.
It's the difference between owning Monopoly's light blue properties like Oriental, and owning bright greens like Pacific Avenue!
We bloggers can get too big for our britches in this little aquarium. We're rowing in a rowboat, expect the iron ships to give us the right of way.
To mix metaphores, I think single engine Cessna's are expected to stay out of the altitudes occupied by heavies.
Me, I got 100,000 hours in a 737 (affiliate TV) but that was then. I still love flying so now retired from it, I fly the Cessna for fun (my blog) but I don't delude myself into thinking that I still work for a major airline. I don't!
Youre not in a Cessna 152 like i am, Tony. Youre in a twin engine Beech Baron turboprop flying visual flight rules. But don't think for a minute, you're a 4 stripe pilot flying a Boeing jet at 32,000 feet.
You're not.
Wish I'd posted this on MY site, I love airplane pictures!
