I thought the answer was: When it's only May and Kansas City's Baseball team has already been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. The Henry Wiggins blog has slightly more optimistic answer.

Yep. I bet my brother in law a night at the ballpark for 4 that the Royals will be last in their division on May 31. Pretty good bet. For me.
