TKC FRIDAY POWER RANKINGS!!!

We can't all be as powerful as Jodie Marsh given that last year she the Brit model ventured into bodybuilding along with modeling.

But a great many Kansas City people flexed their muscles this week.

Check out the most powerful people in Kansas City:

POLITICOS

1. Missouri State Rep. Mike Talboy - House Democratic Campaign Committee Chairman Talboy has been leading the efforts against unreasonable Republican cuts in the Show-Me State and has also had time to work to raise awareness about the departing Folger's plant. These may be losing battles but it's important that Kansas City's Downtown State Rep. is mindful of his constituency.

2. Missouri State Rep. Ryan Silvey - The Kansas City Republican came up with a brilliant budget move during these Missouri harsh times. Rep. Ryan Silvey estimated that imposing an $86,500 salary cap for department directors and aides to statewide officials and an $80,000 cap for deputy department directors would save $1.1 million.

3. KCMSD Superintendent John Covington - He's now on the way busting the teacher's union after his big school closing victory. Unfortunately, none of this sounds good for the future of local education. But in harsh times everybody loves a hatchet man.

4. City Council Lady Deb Hermann - The word is out that she's in the race for Mayor. She's a great lady by all accounts. I don't know about her chances but I'm sure she'll split the Northland vote.

5. Stephene Moore - It's a powerful move to expect a Congressional Seat as a gift from a husband.

NEWSIES

1. DeAnn Smith - Her Twitter account is always a great resource and is gaining followers.

2. John Landsberg - Bottom Line Communications is still going strong a year after he thought he would call it quits. The site remains an essential Kansas City media resource.

3. Eric Wesson - One of the most connected reporters in all of Kansas City, Wesson is bringing The KC Call into the digital age.

4. Mary Sanchez - She actually wrote an interesting column this week giving credit to The Enquirer.

5. Mike Hendricks - He's so horrible, misinformed and unable to keep up with the Internet that he provides hope to all metro writers who want to draw a check despite their incompetence . . . Despite the fact that Hendricks took a pay cut and his employment must be shaky considering so many recent public blunders.

PEOPLE

1. Jeff Fortier - This Kansas City concert promoter is making lots waves in local social circles. He's a really great guy with a ton of local connections.

2. Susanna Lee - Kansas City's pinup comedian is booking gigs all over the country and is taking local burlesque to the next level.

3. Bill Nigro - The Kansas City Strip Trolley is running FREE tonight thanks, in part, to this Westport visionary.

4. Gary Lezak - His weather predictions are spot on as late which makes him much more powerful than the average newsie.

5. Karen Pletz - She has been called a thief and a liar by her old employer and that only seems to make her more interesting. I hear there's talk that she's also persona non grata according to at least one local luxury retailer. So her sordid executive drama is likely to continue.

This list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a (mostly) weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people.

  1. Sorry Tony. You didn't make the list.

  2. I have yet to make up my mind if I even LIKE John Lansberry over at Bottom Line... but as far as I'm concerned, it's not media news until it appears on his site. And when I see a link to BottomLine, I click on it every single time! I'm never disappointed. It would have been just horrible IF HE'D TOSSED IN THE MEDIA TOWEL! I'm so glad he didn't.

If you don't send your media tips to that guy and he decides to use it, then it isn't really news.

Says me, he duh man when it comes to media reporting! And no, SOMETIMES HE pisses me off when he rants.

  3. If DH is in, MB might as well take his toys and go home. She will split the Northland and take the bigger half. (Is she really in?)

  8. Using school funds to visit Texas plastic surgeons is a nice touch. I wonder whether I can get the city to pay for some bootie sculpting on me?

I must remember to tell Cindy to get me an appropriation!
