Kansas City has cause for concern given that a clear front runner for the Kansas City Mayor's race has yet to emerge.
For the moment, I still think Mike Burke is the lesser of all evils when it comes to Mayoral candidates. However, he has some fierce critics with some good points about his years of local, political involvement. The latest rumor going round Kansas City political back channels is that Burke is begging Deb Hermann (via her friends) not to get in the Mayor's race and further divide the Northland vote.
Similarly, Sly James still has all the money but we haven't heard much from him lately. He hasn't been able to get a lot of traction in Kansas City's African-American community but a new hire might help. He's the most charismatic of all the Mayoral candidates but that might not be enough during this hotly contested election.

Once the dude threw his hat in the race there was an audible sound of disgust from Kansas City's political elite. I always thought he missed his shot. He could have ran against Kay when his negatives were far lower but he took the safe Sports Authority gig. Now, he seems like one of the many people coming out of the woodwork to challenge Funkhouser.
And while the Mayor is weak and Co-Mayor Gloria Squitiro is Kansas City political poison, every time Funkhouser goes a few days without a foul up . . . A great many people raise the frightening question of his possible re-election in light of too much, too little or not the right competition.

ReplyDeleteMost of us don't live there. I try to avoid KC except when I go down to eat very occasionally at the Cheesecake Factory. Otherwise, I just never go there! Are the traffic lights still working?
The Funk can indeed win; he still has not totally disgusted and turned off enough northlanders with he and his wife's tacky, tacky, tacky behavior, lack of etiquette and dare I say, people skills. He still needs to pull some sort of stupid stunt north of the river, something really, really, really tacky.
