In the wake of Kansas City Budget cuts one of the very BEST TKC TIPSTERS has a flurry of news from City Hall.
A GREAT MANY PEOPLE WERE LAID OFF ON FRIDAY!!!
This morning at 7:30, The Acting City Manager is speaking to the CIMO staff.
CIMO took another big hit, and some employees will be under the control of Procurement (in General Services) and some will go to the Water Department.
Water apparently will start doing its own construction and using private contractors.
Additionally, what I've heard is that there is a great deal of malaise and bad morale at City Hall under current leadership. These are the folks that provide Kansas City services and the fact they aren't happy says a great deal about the current state of leadership and the outlook for the future amid tighter budgets possibly even more cuts.
about time they stopped cimo most of the emploees is retired x city they should tell them to leave also
ReplyDeleteHow many employees from Human Resources were canned? What about other departments? And has anyone in Human Relations learned how to actually work?
ReplyDeleteOn one side of City Hall, good long time employee are having their lives ruined by getting fired. On the other side of City Hall, they are re hiring ex employees for high level management positions. STOP THE NONSENSE.
ReplyDeleteLet's see... Council approves cutting staff 13-0; the city then implements. Exciting!
ReplyDeleteLayoff's at city hall are just smoke and mirrors. They didn't need to lay anyone off, but it makes them look good to the business community. What a shame. Shame on you City Council. Ever notice how the City Council is so concerned when layoffs anywhere EXCEPT city hall happpen?
ReplyDeleteHow many council aides got layed off? How many on the mayors staff got layed off? How many assistant city managers got layed off? How many retired assistant city managers back on $200,000 contracts got layed off? How many worthless department directors got layed off? How many cops or firemen got layed off? Now, how many basic service department employess are now gone?
ReplyDeleteFunny how this city council lets the police and fire departments eat steak and lobster while the basic service department eat shit sandwiches!!! You people really should hire an independend firm to investigate waste in these departments.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, I love it when people lose their livelihoods so that Northlanders do not have to pay their fair share in taxes!
ReplyDeleteCry you losers!
It is so much fun to be heartless in the service of greed. I love it!
Why is it City Hall all the Time.
ReplyDeleteWhy weren't people from the Fire department and Police Department laid off.
It's the unions. Fire has unions who can get people elected. And the politicians are smart enough not to mess too much with police.
ReplyDeleteDo you folks live in Kansas City? Have you ever tried going to City Hall to get anything done. Many [NOT ALL] of the women there are rude and and care only about their nails and their lunch break. I only hope that the right people are getting laid off. This is the 3rd round of layoffs and I haven't noticed a difference yet. Service still sucks.
ReplyDeleteService will only get worse now.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention your going to pay more in Taxes for poorer service.
Pat MORE for LESS in Kansas City!
You want to see something funny.
ReplyDeleteKCPD advertised it's new website in January 2010 but it has lost 70% of its users page views in the past 3 months.

A City That Works!!!
KCFD needs fixing, that is for sure. Can't say about KCPD because I don't know. Morale at City Hall has been bad since the Kay days. CIMO needed to take a hit; it was a bloated department, underperforming and underfunctioning. Let the city manager do his job. He can do it and do it well. You can't please anyone all of the time, and a lot of city employees you can never please.
ReplyDeleteWhen will citizens learn that money is tight and we have to balance a budget with huge shortfalls. It's the way it is. Hopefully it will get better soon, but for now we have to deal with reality. I can't blame the folks at City Hall for getting few, if any raises, losing holidays, etc. But at least they have jobs! There are many who would like to be able to say that.
ReplyDeleteMorale at KCPD is low also.
ReplyDeleteEvery since Corwin took the reigns things have gone downhill.
You never see anyone from the fifth floor. Communication to the employees is terrible.
When will citizens learn that money is tight and we have to balance a budget with huge shortfalls. It's the way it is.
ReplyDeleteSomebody tell that to the City !!!
They have THROWN away taxes dollars for years.
Balance the Budget? How do you balance a budget with the City Council we have?
I can't Believe the Price hikes KC is imposing on it's citizens.
ReplyDeleteIt's ridiculous we had hardly any snow removal this year!!! Now they want more money ? FOR WHAT ???
Budget cuts. Staffing cuts. Transfers. No pay increases. Uncertainty.
ReplyDeleteAll unavoidable in this economic climate.
Very understandable results.
Seen it before - even with premier employers that are blue chip companies.
Election coming up. Hopefully things will get better.
I work for the city but things have gotten so bad that i've decided to leave not worth it. you can not plan a future with the city.
ReplyDelete4:28, where exactly are you going to go in this economy where you can plan a future. It's not just the City and I hope you find the next job before you quit this one.
ReplyDeleteThe city is raising sewer and water rates. This dept is a joke. I have seen on my block three trucks and seven or eight workers and one man with a two inch brush painting a fire hydrant. This work needs ro be sub-contracted for effeciency.
ReplyDeleteKCMO doesn't need a few meaninless layoffs. It needs a coordinated election of efficiency enthusiasts elected to City Council and a City Manager who can work with them. Then they need to go after every department from the TOP down. The people at the bottom are rarely problem.
ReplyDeleteIt is stunning how inefficient that place is.
What about the City Manager position? Troy's contract is up in May. Tony what is going on with that? Can you tell us anything? Are your tipsters not giving you info on that? Come on Tony get us some real information.
ReplyDeleteLast year the Enterprise fund depts took the biggest layoff hits, Water and Aviation. This year it was time for other departments who suck money off of those depts to cough up some positions. Sorry CIMO we have all seen this coming.
ReplyDeleteFact: money is tight. People are going to lose jobs. Not just city workers; everywhere. I wonder about the city manager job, too. Seems this guy is implementing the budget, something the last guy never did, but I suppose he should apply like everyone else. Morale hasn't been better (for the city employees I've spoken to in a while).Tough decisions were made (by Jan and others) too bad if we don't love them. Fact is, I don't believe you can do more with less forever. At least we can't at my house. Me and many others can't wait for the election. I will admit I like the Northland woman, who got the old manager out, but may be we need someone from out side of city hall. As for snow removal, I don't want to gear up for the once every twenty years storm every winter.
ReplyDeleteWith the downturn in the economy this city should be promoting economic development to generate revenue. This city is stuck in nuetral with no real upside to revenue.Red light cameras, parking tickets, and extra trash bags is not the answer.
ReplyDeleteNorth Oak would have been completed
ReplyDeletetwo years earlier if CIMO
had not delayed the project.
