True Slant: Kansas City’s unprecedented cutbacks are a warning to the entire country . . . I linked this really great column because like most of the news coverage it fails to accurately note the historic and divisive role that race played in the decision and the ongoing demise of the district. The closings were a form of revenge against the African-American School Leadership and the communities that elected them. The enrollment numbers are a direct result of white flight. Refusing to acknowledge the racial element in this story, like so many mainstream media outlets, is akin to burying your head in the sand.

Maybe you need to do a little history on the school district before you put the blame on white flight.
ReplyDeletehere we go AGAIN! Racism...Jesus. When will it ever end?
ReplyDeleteAnd what about the upcoming layoffs and closings in Johnson County? who will you blame that on? I say it's minorities fault since they didn't move over into joco fast enough. fuckers!

ReplyDeleteIt is 2010 not 1960, White flight ended 30 years ago. Now everybodys fleeing from the stinking pile of shit called the KC school district.
AA leadership has been missing in action for years and this has been much of the problem for the last 30 years.
Its not the end of the world. Just closing some schools to rightsize the district's buildings.
ReplyDeleteNatural migration, just like back east has suffered people flight to the great warm southwest.
Like Mexico is emptying out as an ever increasing number of its citizens move north where the work is. Are you complaining about the bright flight south of the border?
A few things:
ReplyDelete* Racism is not as virulent as it once was; but it does exist
* Your focus on racism as THE problem regarding school closings is off-target
* THE problem is that (1) the District has long been seen as a fiefdom by AA activists
* Since the District has a legal monopoly it has not felt the NEED to achieve excellence, AND its clientele have been hostages
SO ...
* Every problem (even people voting with their feet) has been one which has been addressed with speeches and slogans (can you spell "Schools First"?)
* Consequently, the REAL problems have been left unaddressed for decades -- we have been "kicking the can down the street"
* Like every real public policy issue that is "a can kicked down the street" it doesn't get better over time; it gets WORSE
* Finally all such problems reach a "Tipping Point" when even "kicking the can down the street" won't work anymore, and the system collapses.
* This is the inevitable consequence for accepting sloganeering and happy-talk in lieu of leadership
* Can we NOW agree its time to simply IGNORE Arthur Benson, Clinton Adams, Gwen Grant et. al.
* Free the Hostages! Vouchers NOW!
Remember when David Smith berated a KCMSD employee by telling her she couldn't hire a person because they weren't black? Remember the large award this lady received?
ReplyDeleteThe black leadership of this city has failed the black community. Largely a group of self-serving whores who feed like leaches off of the school district and city government.
The enrollment numbers are a direct result of people of all colors fleeing this city. What are left are those who can't move away. They are today's reservation Indians. For every dollar appropriated to help the needy, 99-cents goes into the pockets of do-nothing organizations filled with politicos or their families and campaign donors.
Don't expect a takeover to solve much of anything. Philadelphia schools have been run by a private company for a few years and it is the same-old-same-old.
The racial element is the self-inflicted genocide of the black "leadership" over the citizens.
The city is corrupt and content. Forever and ever amen...
true dat.
ReplyDeleteWho died and made TKC an expert on race?
ReplyDeleteThe KCMO School District hasn't been about the students for 30 years. It's all been about jobs for incompetent staff and teachers, usually friends of the black power structure. Remind me, how many of Helen Ragsdale's relatives are on the District payroll? Follow Sugar Creek's lead, neighborhoods succeed from the District!
ReplyDeleteTony you are such a douchy fuckin' clown.
ReplyDeleteYour blog reads like it was written by someone who went to Kansas and Texas public schools.
Retard.
It is revenge againt incompetent, patronage leadership that just happens to be black. The people in charge have been crooks, black crooks who would have been just as crooked had they been white. But since they are black most of their family and friends were black and so the people they doled out favors to happened to be black. If they had been white then the family and friends they gave favors to would have likely been white. But since they were black race becomes part of the equasion but is really just a smoke screen
