KCMSD School Board Conclusion

I've come to a conclusion about The Kansas City, Missouri School District and the upcoming School Board Elections.

Sure, I have my favorites . . . But something is getting lost in the discussion.

THE NEXT ELECTION ISN'T GOING TO FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE ANYTHING FOR THE KCMSD!!!

The District is still failing, there are still haven't been many ideas about improving education within the classroom and bigger socio-economic problems have otherwise doomed Kansas City's failed experiment in public education.

It gets worse . . . Because there is so much optimism now after school closings and because the egos of aspiring politicos have been unchecked. Nobody has mentioned:

THE JOB OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD MEMBER IS THANKLESS, UNPAID AND OFFERS LITTLE OPPORTUNITY FOR POLITICAL ADVANCEMENT!!!

15 years ago Councilman Terry Riley made a name for himself on the School Board and was able to turn it into a Council Position . . . Other than that, there are no other political high flyers in recent memory.

The School Board gig is really the bottom of the barrel as far as elected office in Kansas City is concerned. That's part of the reason anybody who takes part in this thing has my respect. However, in the final analysis it's unfair to burden naive political hopefuls with saving a district that has been in decline for more than a generation and has shown no real quantifiable sign of improvement.

  1. Never have we heard more uninformed and crazy proposals than those from these two candidates.

Cokethea Hill - Who as a Board member had every opportunity to ask for all the details she wanted on the closing plan; asked nothing relevant; then voted NO because she needed more details to be spoon fed to her. Incompetent.

Linwood Tauheed - Supersizing the district by spending more money on better teachers will fill up the district's empty spaces;. Yet he offers NOT ONE idea how to close the immediate $50 million budget gap for the coming school year. Students will not come to a bankrupt District. Clearly this is third grade idea from a supposed economist.

  2. Just like Covington - new blood and new people are the key to saving this district.

We need to use our votes wisely this time.

  3. You guys are just mad because the Airrick West "team" got their asses handed to them during the debate last night.

    It was a total slaughter!

  4. Ms. Hill did ask for all the details and Dr. Covington told her that he didn't have the answers. You must not have been there that night.

During a meeting of the Black Agenda Group last week, Airrick West was asked if it was true that he voted for the Right-Sizing Plan even though Covington told the Board and the audience that he didn't have the answers. His response was, YES. He then went on to say that he had lost confidence that Covington's plan would be put into place by the next school year.

You people only know what you hear/see on the news. Get the facts!!

With the money looted from the school district, who needs to advance as a political hack?

It is the culture of KC politics which set the pattern. Until the culture changes new faces will be able to do little to stem the corruption and rampant theft.

  6. Tony,
It doesn't matter who gets on the board - the district is going out of business -it's just a matter of time - RIP.

  7. I'm just glad I don't live in the district. It's a complete train wreck.

  8. I am sorry to see that Crispan and Kyleen are fronts for the corrupt and overpaid lobbyist Kim Carlos.

Airick Leonard West sent out an email this afternoon which discloses who is providing the money for Crispan and Kyleen's campaigns:

    FUNDRAISING
Leaders: Stephen R. Bough (KCU4EA treasurer & Jackson County Democratic Party chairman), Kim Carlos (KCU4EA organizer & KC Consulting owner) & airick leonard west (KCU4EA chair & Freedom, Inc member).

I cannot vote for anyone who is associated with Kim Carlos.
