DEAD TREE MEDIA DEMISE: THE STAR LOSES MASSIVE NUMBERS IN CIRCULATION AND SUBSCRIBERS!!!

One of the very best TKC Readers just sent me news of the world changing
McClatchy Company is reporting that weekday circulation at the Kansas City Star dropped by more than 21,000 subscribers last year---and by nearly 16,000 Sunday subscribers---according to information released this week by Edgar Online (LINK). From fiscal year 2008 to FY-2009 the Star lost 21,073 weekday customers (-9.47%) and 15,614 (-4.93%) Sunday subscribers. Weekday circulation at the end of 2009 was at 222,415 and Sunday at 316,390. The Miami Herald saw the largest drop of all McClatchy-owned papers by losing nearly 54,000 weekday customers during the one-year period.
Remember former Star employees: I'll be giving blogging lessons.

Columnist Mike Hendricks gets a discount but only if he brings his wife. Natch.

  1. Have you read the KC Star lately? The paper is so thin yet the price has gone up. I knew that there was blood in the water, when I saw most of the ads in the Classified Section was from the KC Star, plus there is very little local news of substance in it.

  2. A guy who works at The Star and has paid off his house, raised 3 kids and put them through college. What have you done Tony?3/5/10, 10:50 PM

And they still have hundreds of thousands more subscribers than you.

But then again I guess it's easy to dis such an easy business target like the Star, especially from a guy who's the head of his own non-business with no employees, no taxes paid and not one single day of your life where you make a positive difference in the community.

Keep doing what your doing and you'll keep getting what you're getting.

  3. It's telling of a man's character when he hopes for a companies demise just because he feels like they aren't acting how he thinks they should.

Never mind the fact that hundreds of people who don't write one single word in the paper and have nothing to do with how the the company operates stand to lose their job.

That man is a self-centered person who is not much different from your average criminal or huckster. He's a selfish person who only cares about what he thinks and if you do not fit into his world view than you should suffer because he doesn't like you.

    You're a sad sack.

  4. Sounds about right.

  5. The Star lost sight of the need to REPORT! They let their political/social bias slip into the entire paper. People are voting with their pocket books, they will NOT pay for a POOT quality product. It is interesting that those of you that attack Tony, still read TKC. With Tony you know where he's coming from, I value his candor and honesty. Not to mention the LADIES.

  6. Where did you steal this story from? Sounds like from your buddy at buttomline.

  7. It was part of a concerted effort to pull back from areas where it wasn't profitable to distribute the paper.

    Now, wasn't that simple?

  9. The folks that get on here and defend Tony the Huckster are of very POOT quality.

  11. Hey "A guy that works at The Star", while TKC has been an absolute breakthrough in Kansas City media, I don't think the point is what has Tony done. It's what is he and other amazing bloggers like him about to do. And that's put The Star out of business.

It would be a sad day to see when that happens. But truth is, I prefer reading TKC over The Star as The Star is always late to the party and plays too much politics.

  14. Hey 2:27, you stupid fuck. Where do you think Tony will get his news to link to if they go out of business.

And 6:36, "editorialist are stale and everyone I know has grow tired of the same worn out rants over and over."

Seriously? Come back in weigh in on media issues when you learn how to read and write.
