The 816 blog has a brilliant critique of recent Pitch advertising initiatives via social media i.e. shilling on Facebook.
"The Pitch, however, is doing it all wrong. The Pitch is Kansas City’s free “alternative weekly.” I can understand their need to sell ad space, but they need to learn quickly that their Facebook news feed is not the place for ads. Just check out how some of their “fans” have responded so far."My favorite user reaction to clandestine adverts from The Pitch is probably: "Fuck your ads" posted by some internet purist.
Rest assured, with a dwindling page count, fewer advertisers with cash and the Internets . . . This method of online shilling is the only hope for publishers who want to make a buck.
