Last week a great many of you d-bags doubted me when I offered evidence of a connection between hipster website The Kansas City Free Press and a local advertising agency.
Unfortunately, most of you bags didn't even do a Google Search before attempting to stand up for some all-white web page that seems to be dedicated to substituting advertisements for news. Remember, I provided Whois Data for KCFP dude Jeff Henry and so many anony Internet nitwits said it was just a coincidence . . . But in an effort to stand up for middle-class white people you bags didn't even check the dude's online profile on the site in question.
"Jeff Henry moved to Kansas City in 1995 to finish his English degree, and study art and design, at Avila college. While attending Avila he worked at The Pitch, where he first became interested in the weekly alternative news format. In 1999 Henry founded BIGSHOT™ Interactive, which has grown from a one-man design shop in the back of a West Plaza rental to a full-service digital agency situated in the heart of Kansas City's Rivermarket. Ten years later, with the marketing and technology support of BIGSHOT™, he found himself in perfect position to get back to the alternative news format and launched KCFreePress.com — an online only, hyper-local news portal — with Executive Editor Jay Senter and Editor-in-Chief Lucas Wetzel. Henry lives in Brookside with his wife, Paula, his son, Hubert, their dog, Stella, and their cat, Peaches."So there it is . . .
IN MY OPINION, KANSAS CITY FREE PRESS IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN ADVERTISING AGENCY IN DISGUISE!!!
Are they hurting anybody? Nope. Lame advertorial-like content has been around for years.
Are they breaking the law? Not at all. Here's a hint: The FTC has no idea what rules they will settle on when it comes to blogger sponsorship schemes.
I'm simply the messenger of a fact that wasn't very highly publicized by Kansas City Free Press fanboys . . . The online "experiment" is yet another ad scheme in my opinion and if the connections to ad companies are going to be noted in the correct context.
Now, I realize the fact that it took some serious Latino/Westside investigative reporting to uncover this bit of corporate subterfuge might but unsettling to some . . . But it represents the real freedom of the Internet.
While my opinions and photos of hotass bikini models chase away advertisers and sponsors . . . More enterprising party-goers are looking toward merging entertainment news and advertising. It's a viable profit model and I don't really have a really have problem with it . . . It's just a shame that so many people ignore the inevitable combination of editorial content and advertising in the midst of the decline of dead tree media.
You forgot the "Exclusive" tag dumbass.
ReplyDeleteyou are stupid. that guy you hate posted jeff's ownership of the free press before christmas.
ReplyDeleteand your just now finding it out? seriously wrong man. and your the guy always complaining about not linking back to original reporting.
That's a link to a staff page. Not anywhere near my quality analysis.
ReplyDeleteAnd be careful with comment spam. I only have so much patience.
Don't feed the trolls Tony.
ReplyDeleteI read that link from Will Not Be Televised, a really funny blog. It did not mention anything about the advertising relationship.
ReplyDeleteshut up bitch.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only thing Jeff does or has done in years, as anyone who knows anything about KC is aware.
ReplyDeleteand why are you upset about that person linking other sources, tony? Isn't that what you're always bitching about?
It's too bad it took you that much effort work to report what was stated in the first paragraph of a press release months ago

you sound threatened, Tony.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... a combination of editorial content and advertising. You mean like this?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.kcconfidential.com/?p=12574
Well, kcfreepress.com has one thing going for it: it's desperately dull. I mean, go-once-and-never-look-again dull.
ReplyDelete-combination of editorial content and advertising-
ReplyDeleteYou mean like a newspaper? or magazine? or TV show?
or something like this?:

It's the name....stupid. Taking the name "free press" taps into a couple of centuries of hard won credibility associated with that name. Hard fought journalism made the name, now an interloper, a charlatan takes this name and soils it with commercialism........
ReplyDeleteRemember this any and all newspapers are nothing more than the daily catalog of prostitution, be it by politicians, journalists, or merchants. All newspapers exist to publicize todays whore dog deals.
Your problem with internet "advertorials" is what?
3:12 is Hearne.
ReplyDeletebest point at 4:13
ReplyDeleteAnd "Free PRess" people trolling Tony's blog is hilarious.
Tony sounds like a scared little bitch.
ReplyDeleteAs far as doubt goes...No one doubted you because no one gives a shit about this except you and your dumbass KC blogger buddies.
This is the kind of stupid shit that you're very well known for.
Some days its seems like Radioman has taken over your brain. You can be such a fucking child.
Here's some careful for you.
ReplyDeleteSTFU YOU SLIMEBALL DUMBASS COCKSUCKING PIG.
What are you gonna do. Delete it.
Loser.
Wow. Who would get THAT mad at a blogger?
ReplyDelete15 yard penalty. Over reaction.
and what about tkc's whole "And be careful with comment spam. I only have so much patience."?
ReplyDeletewtf?
does he mean he'll take his blog and go home? send nuclear missiles down on us? what? maybe he was drinking early again...
I try not to care about what Tony says. Most of Kansas City does the same.
