BlogKC has done some great work in documenting the proposed Tomahawke Ridge Annexation.
At NoTo500Homes.com the neighbors are valiantly speaking, blogging, publishing their story for themselves.
Now I'd like to add a bit more perspective on the people involved with this deal . . .
We already know that there's a Jeff Roe is tight with the Mayor Funky and buddies with the Attorney Chris Byrd who worked as the attorney for developers.
DETRACTORS AGAINST THE PROJECT WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT KIM CARLOS IS ALLEGEDLY PART OF THE DEAL AND WORKING HER PR MAGIC IN SUPPORT OF THE ANNEXATION!!! IN TURN, SHE MIGHT HOLD JUST A BIT OF SWAY WITH HER MANY COUNCIL CONNECTIONS!!!
The main point of revealing this info is that from both the Democrat and Republican side it's easy to trace back relationships and influence in order to see how such a horrible idea has come so far. It's all typical KC politics wherein the things that look reasonable to politicos don't stand up to scrutiny in the light of day.
Whether you agree or disagree with the development being discussed, Kim C. is simply doing her job. To criticize her for that is really unfair and uncalled for.

ReplyDeleteLike the Kevin Bacon parlor game, but with a local poltical twist, players will be given the name of a Kansas City tainted-politician or scandal, in response players will have to name people or sham political committees associated with the pol or scandal until they reach Kim Carlos in as few links as possible.
Maybe to keep it sporting, we should name this one The 3 Degrees of Kim Carlos?

ReplyDeleteThe definition of "link" or "connection" might prove problematic unless defined in the rules. Does the relationship have to result in Kim receiving a commercial contract, kickback or other enrichment for the use of her influence? I think that should be the goal line. If we held players to the higher standard of Kim actually completing work on behalf of the relationship, I think bar fights could ensue.

Kay Barnes had a friend named (1)Lynn Hinkle, who owned (2)ASTRA Enterprises that employed Kim George Carlos (DING DING DING!) and received millions of dollars of city money to create "rain gardens."
ReplyDeleteAlthough the goal was 10K rain gardens and only a couple hundred were completed, ASTRA Enterprises kept all the cash.
So Kim is a part of the problem that Mark was left with and is trying to clean up!

Like any other poltical, PR, or govermental realtions consultant (oh, let's see: Pat Gray, Steve Glorioso, Pat O'Neill, Phil Scaglia) or development attorney in town (there's a large list here - look at the MEC reports) who has worked for political candidates, contributed to candidates or supported candidates, this is their job. Why is it that you don't ever connect the dots or talk about the "connections" that continue to get Glorioso work for Trozzolo (large NO BID contracts) or the fact that the Red Light cameras went through at the same time that Scaglia wrote big checks to the council and because his best buddy, Cathy Jolly, led the charge, or the fact the O'Neill is working for Deffenbaugh trying to put on political pressure to make sure they continue to get their big contracts, Etc. Etc. We could go on and on. Or is it just because Kim has a nice ass and is prettier to look at that you continue this B.S. I guarantee you, if she were a man (and you'll note - no other women do this type of work in town because of this B.S.) - your "tipsters" who are jealous of a woman's success, wouldn't be acting this way. It's no secret that she does PR for a living - and that she has relationships - that's her work and she doesn't hide these things. Maybe it's time to do some homework and level the playing field Tony, why don't you call out some of the boys for their relationships. They've been at it for decades!

Your jealousy borders on obsession based on the fact that you have a negative comment any time her name is mentioned. I feel sorry for you that you have such hatred for someone you obviously don't know well. That's not a healthy way to live your life.

ReplyDeleteKim has a history of talking trash about other consultants when she interviews with clients. When she talked with me about a campaign I was considering, she ran down a list of competitors or people I was considering hiring for particular parts of the campaign and trashed everyone of them personally. She accused them of all kinds of acts of disloyalty or even illegality. At that time I took her word for it and I wish I had not.

10:14- absolutely right on the money. She is no worse/better than any of the other political consultants out there... all of whom have ebbs and flows as far as contracts signed/candidates elected/ influence gained are concerned. Been curious as to why TKC has singled her out these past few months.

The Funk has been Mayor for 3 years +/-. And we still hear griping about Kim Carlos and her hands... the hands that are still in the Municipal Till. What has the Funk done about this problem? Nothing! Absolutely nothing like all if not everything he has attended to.
