When TKC first noted that Troy Schulte was Kansas City's "Great White Hope" I didn't think that the phrase had anything to do with the snow. On a similar note, it was just this year that I learned that "White Christmas" wasn't actually a reference to Caucasians.
Still, Kansas City political denizens would be remiss if they didn't recognize the rather significant cadre of Kansas City folks who are already holding some hostility toward Schulte and are using this snow storm as ammunition.
The rhetoric on the KC Snow Mess and Schulte goes like this:
Personally, I think it's far too early to blame Schulte for Kansas City snow removal failure. In fact, only Mayor Funky offered so many unrealistic promises in terms of being "smart with the money" and "A City That Works" so the brunt of the criticism belongs to the Mayor given that he should be held accountable for his campaign promises.
Still . . .
THERE'S NO DENYING THAT POLITICAL VENDETTAS AGAINST SCHULTE ARE UNDERWAY AND USING KANSAS CITY'S SNOW MESS AS A TALKING POINT!!!
The criticism has sparked local media coverage. As Kansas City's political denizens work to spin the snow storm.

All of City Hall deserves the blame. The Council too. Shovel the bums out.
ReplyDeleteYawn. This is getting old.
ReplyDeleteSimple solution, sell all the take home cop cars, use that money and all the savings in gas and buy better snow plows.
ReplyDeleteTroy should fire the director of public works. Ultimately it is his/her responsibility.
ReplyDeleteTo lay all this blame (and snow) at Schulte's feet is unfair and inappropriate. While he was formerly the budget guy, the council and former manager are the ones who own this current budget. Factor in a few hefty legal settlements courtesy of you-know-who and you have some of the reasons why things are not getting plowed.
ReplyDeleteBTW... in many northern towns, including Green Bay, citizens are prohibited from parking on streets during snow. Other towns require parking on one side only. This allows the plows to do the job, which they can't do when people park on the street. So... are citizens ready to give up their streetside parking for clean streets?
This snow removal fiasco is Cauthen's legacy of mismanagement, all the public works money went to Denver CIMO consultants...unfortunately it will take time to turn that battleship.
ReplyDeleteSo what responsibility does Schulte have for anything? Should he be praised and deified for the good things the City does and when the City works and never blamed when things go horribly wrong and the City is rendered unsafe?
ReplyDeleteWhere does the buck stop? He has had a month as the City Manager to prepare for winter and snowstorms... what was he thinking?
He can't be tagged for not fulfilling campaign promises to the citizens but he can be blamed for not doing his job and for his part in turning the Snow Plow Crisis into a Debacle where the City and the Citizens are not SAFE.
I think that we misunderstood the Bearded Ghoul all along. Mayor Snowplowhead was telling us that he was going to give us and make sure we had a City that Didn't Work.
ReplyDeleteLong live the Orange Revolution, the Orange Revolution is dead!
Can we please get over blaming Funk for the snow?
ReplyDeleteIt's getting old.
Kendrick shut the fuck up. Inafunk said it best. The orange revolution died in the snow just like that homeless guy.
ReplyDeleteDid you see Sanders declare for the Mayor position on the news? Jackson County helping poor KCMO with the streeets.....
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty pathetic that Tony can't manufacture some "tipster" story to come up with the new song here. This is tiresome and played out.
ReplyDelete8:21-- Parking bans are key to effectual snow removal when you get big storms (but that doesn't happen here often, so I can see why they don't have them). But that's how they do it in the Northeast.
ReplyDeleteNo one is blaming the Funk for the snow. He is getting tagged for promising us a City that Works and deliverying absolutely NOTHING. In fact, because of the Funk, Schulte and the Council Titans, what we have is a City that is NOT SAFE.
ReplyDeleteMayor Snowplowhead held a press conference about the Snow Removal/Plowing Debacle and Crisis and didn't even know if the City had budgeted money for snow removal. Is he JUST PLAIN STUPID? This now Circus Freak rude, crude racially divisive and gruesome looking buffoon was the Kansas City Auditor of the century before plopping his and without the decency to tell us in advance Gloria's equally grotesque butt into the Mayor's Chair and instantly became not only retard but the laughingstock of local, state and national politics (remember the December 2007 Christmas Card where the Squid share with us the Funk getting a finger crammed up his behind and then, when his prostate exam was over taking him home and sharing with us the game of matador and bull [she was the matador]?).
Get it? This loser was the Leader of the Orange Revolution... he promised us a City that Worked and gave us hope that the people would have their guy as Mayor rather than some TIF and special interest developer crony. And what did we get? The Gruesome Twosome!!!! The Squid and Mayor Smart With Nothinghouser.
Long live the Orange Revolution, the Orange Revolution is Dead.
It's fucking cold outside
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the temperature is inside the Shabby Shack?
ReplyDeleteYou guys are mean. But I tell you the fact that I haven't seen a snow plow all night makes me know where you're coming from.
ReplyDeleteLet's get this straight. City council forks over 500k for a study on a 1000 room hotel. City Council (upon Troy Schulte's recommendation) votes to take over the EMS service which ultimately gets merged into the fire department for MILLIONS of dollars that will come from where to take 300 employees into the benefit program and city pension? (sorry Local 500 members and all the middle managers who got layed off on April 3rd). Millions of Federal stimulus money is funneled into special interest groups by the 3rd district council women while the streets in their district remain impassible? The 6th district managed to lose the Soccer Complex AND Cerner? Lets not leave out our wonderful 5th district and the Citadel fiasco. And somehow, we expect them to care about our freaking streets? There is no campaign money to be had for plowing streets. The constituents are LOSERS in this city in that their elected representatives are not looking out for their best interests! Whoever can come up with campaign contributions (BIG PAC money) is where the concern of this city government lies. Please, WHERE IS A CITY THAT WORKS?
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it but 12:42 has it dead on. Toss in a nepotistic minority centric personnel department along with a whole kingdom of departmental fiefdoms and you get the City that Doesn't Work.
ReplyDeleteThis city needs and upper management rout and performance measures for every single employee until the dead weight is gone. And if you check the spread in any department you can assure yourself there is some serious dead weight!
10:29 you sound like sore loser Glorioso, if he could string two sentences together. "A month" to prepare for two major storms? Are you kidding me? The fault for these messes lies with Cauthen, and you're just sorry to see your buddy, who kept you and your pals fed and watered, be shown the door. Why don't YOU move to Denver and suck out of their trough? You've been a parasite in this town long enough.
