Mahoney blog reports that once again Kansas City falls behind STL when it comes to transit cash.
Of course The KC Light Rail blog is more optimistic: "Kansas City gets passenger rail boost"

Does K.C. have a person whose sole job is to figure out what Washington is giving out stimulus money for and putting all the paperwork together so that K.C. gets some of that...
ReplyDeleteI believe that job would be one of the very few in K.C. government that actually gives you more back then what they would pay that person..
K.C. Stimulus Coordinator
Money going out-->50K a year salary
Money coming in<--- Millions
Net for city--> Priceless
Mayor of K.C.
Money going out---> 100K+ in salary and $2,000,000 to settle various lawsuits in 4 year term.
Money coming back in<---None
Net for city--> $-5,000,000 to the negative.
It is pretty disingenuous to say we "lost to STL". If KC were geographically closer to Chicago, we'd have gotten that money. An HSR link from STL to CHI will benefit us. The idea that the first phase of HSR would run from CHI to KC or KC to Denver is just dumb. STL to CHI is a huge truck/passenger route. Makes good sense. KC lost nothing in this.
ReplyDeletePLUS we got $31million for rail improvements b/w KC and STL! That's pretty awesome!
I WANT MY CHECK
ReplyDeleteThe first post is 100% correct. If KC had put together a good plan for KC to STL could have been a great alternative to building a new I-70..
