Aborting Free Speech: The Kansas City Star Runs Planned Parenthood Statement Without Room For Reader Comments!!!

In a shocking, elitist and biased Internet display . . . The so-called Kansas City paper-of-record denies the ability of their readers to respond to a Planned Parenthood Statement gloating over the conviction of The Tiller Killer.

SADLY, DURING THE DECLINE OF DEAD TREE MEDIA THE STAR SEEMS TO BE SHUTTING OUT THE VOICES OF THEIR READERS!!!

Meanwhile, for the most part I let people have their say here on TKC and the Internet overall is nothing less than the last bastion of Free Speech. It's a shame to see Kansas City's paper of record take the 1st Amendment for granted and deny the immediate and direct communication among readers that online comments provides.

Ironically, The Star's effort to silence masses of readers online is frighteningly akin to the nearly unfathomable mass murder of unborn children facilitated by quick and easy abortionists like the late Dr. Tiller.

Yeah, that's right, The Star's elitism and efforts to stifle alternative discourse is nearly as awful as an abortion. I'm also not very impressed with their comics section.

  1. You haven't been paying attention, Tony. They started doing that about a week ago to ALL stories that have the potential for volatile commentary. Anything about abortions, Mexicans, or Eastsiders killing each other (aka the usual) has had commenting disabled the last several days.

  5. no comments were allowed on the national right to life statement, either, dumbass

  6. To Anon 832 and 205: No comments on the Waldo rapist sketch either. And if you do want to leave comments, you have to fill out a multipage questionairre. What BS. They could be THE community forum, but instead they want your email and phone number to market to you before you can even comment. Wrong strategy!!!

Anons - Don't whine too much: At least Tony let's you comment!

I think the guy over at Bottom Line once pointed out that the Star is now heavily censored. As you and I know, yael t abouhalkah, the former Lion of the Press Corps and now a resident of Oblivion censors every comment on his blog.

Oh well... look what that behavior got them.

  8. 6:55, you are referring to a job and a paycheck? How well does publishing rumors on TKC pay? Is the 401k match any good?

  9. I wonder where the old Star employees will find them?

  10. The First Amendment is about Congress not making any laws abridging free speech, not newspaper websites.

Where in the First Amendment does it say that "newspaper websites have to keep their comments open to the public"? Where? Somewhere in the back?

The Star can do what it wants with comments. It's their sandbox, and if they don't want people peeing in it, nutjobs like John Altevogt, more power to 'em.

GET IT? It is THEIR website.

  11. It may be their web site, but they practice a constitutionally protected form of capitalism that allows them their say. If there were any intellectual honesty left in the building, which would be quite a strech as long as Mork Zieman is still fucking up a golden franchise handed to him before he was ready to capitalize on it, they would at least allow people in the community to freely exchange ideas the way they believe they are entitled to as a member of the Fourth Estate. It's the double standard that pisses people off.
Me? Canceled the subscription a year ago. How much better is my life? The $200 or so I've saved since then. I guarantee you, there has been no downside to not reading it.

  12. 9:49 you were just taken to the woodshed by 10:25.

  13. Wrong 12:15. 9:49, unlike the latter two comments, had enough grade school civics class to actually understand the world we live in.

The individual who gauges their self worth based on a $200 newspaper subscription is a hopeless cause and not worth trying to correct.
