Well, it's not exactly cleanup . . .More like everyone at City Hall running for cover now that it looks like people just might be going to jail on this Citadel Plaza project gone sour.
KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS note the following:
"Galen Buford will terminate the Citadel TIF tomorrow, meaning the TIF is dead absent a new RFP. I don't know whether he can do that or it needs council action BUT that's the word."It's a pretty good idea for Kansas City to move as far away from this hot mess, alleged toxic waste site and financial debacle as soon as possible. The Lunar Landing Site Look-a-like sitting in the 5th District is a testament to the inability of this Council to do anything concrete to fix Kansas City's real world problems.
With no political capital and, even worse, no cash . . . Kansas City politicos are pretty much powerless to address the needs of this town as money grows tighter, endless wars rage overseas and the most anticipated event in local politics is the return of Gloria Squitiro to her throne . . . i.e. the bathroom toilet in the Mayor's office.

ReplyDeleteBetter yet, can you see Cindy in orange? I feel sorry for the poor people who were bought out of their family homes in the area. Even if they got fair prices for their home, there is no place like home and now all for naught.

ReplyDeleteOn this we need to give credit to Cindy. She helped to find an alternative to funding this mess. In the end the people who have worked to put money behind this debacle are Terry Riley and the CDC.

Alas for poor Terry Riley, the Orange Revolution is dead :) Although I gather this is not what you were referring to.
The future is bright for CM Riley... he fits right in to the Council... a bunch of phonies totally out of touch with their constituents, looking to grab what they can for themselves and their friends nefore the music stops and the City is bankrupt.

The project was stopped because no matter who the developer was, there was no bank financing available. And the City didn't have enough money to give to developer to make the project go forward, viable or not.
One might note that the Funk was on board with the last $20 million that the City was scheduled to pour down that cesspool. Another Smart With the Money effort brought to us and dumped upon us by our version of a one (maybe two) person Municipal Nightmare.
Who knows how much money got wasted and stolen... that's for the FBI and other parts of the government to find out. And now that the project is ending, using accounting flim flummery and other tricks to hide what went on will be much more difficult to do.
This project would continue if Terry got his way. Thank God he didn't and smarter heads prevailed (or are running for cover because of the investigation). At least Terry has one bright spot... he was able to feed Doc Worley a bunch of funds, and since Doc used to drive Terry all over town, Terry owes him chauffeur money.

Just watch Riley is not a con man he is an astute business developer with an extensive public relations and legal background. He has all of the necessary skills to build this thing on his own.
He said the other day that he had made FIVE PEOPLE MILLIONAIRES.
Where does the line form to help him get this project completed.
Anon 9:06, I assume you are writing tongue-in-cheek because Riley has no money, mooches off everyone he can, has as much in the way of business and legal skills as he does interpersonal skills (threatening people, bullying people in elevators, paranoia, etc.), and is generally taking up space on earth. He has accomplished nothing and he will accomplish nothing.
