Idea to combine osteopathic degree with M.D. is what got Karen Pletz fired according to The Star . . . "offering such a combined degree could raise questions about the whole field of osteopathy as an independent profession."

I'm pretty sure that the reason for her being fired and the public way she was fired has nothing to do with this. That being said, it seems that Pletz and her public realtions team on the Star have made the first move... my guess is that the School isn't going to wait for the court action to make its case to the public.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I am also a wee bit suspicious that we may see the hand of Yael T Abouhalkah in this at some point... either out front (why not, he has free time now that the Funk has been mostly publicly obliterated) or sneakily from inside the Star itself (just like he manipulated the Star on behalf of the Funk against and to the detriment of the nice, civic minded but somewhat lame and useless Alvin Brooks).
We'll see.
Well what do you expect from someone making a Million+ per year.
ReplyDeleteI have asked Yael if he is going to look into (investigate) this matter and as of yet have received no reply.
ReplyDeleteWhat say ye Yael T Abouhalkah?
And I don't count passing on some issue muddling pro Pletz story as investigating. In any event, you have not answered my question!
another post on Yael's blog that was CENSORED:
ReplyDeleteattempted to paost around 517PM under the title/subject line investigate this
(forgive the spelling errors)
Hi Yael... it seems that you have adopted my e-mailed comments to you (since because of CENSORSHIP I have had trouble getting my comments posted [also the subject of e-mails to you]) and have started to figure out that soemthing other than Karen Pletz' leaked defense is at play here. Now it's time for you to investiagte on your own... like you once did when you were the Lion Of The Press in our City. Do it, guy!
Also, a minor tidbit, I haven't seen any statement from KCUMB discussing legal action against Karen Pletz. Nowhere!
Alas for Ms Pletz, and perhaps a reason she's spinning rather than producing hard facts in her own defense (particularly since according to the KCUMB press release she knows specicially why she got fired) when all this comes out which it most likely will either because you start doing your job again instead of bogging about sports or someone leaks the "facts" or Ms Pletz continues with her legal action (I wonder if she filed the lawsuit herself since I have been led to believe she is a lawyer [you could report on that too, Yael]) and KCUMB is forced to "put up" its "facts" I fear that even though she seems to be a local presence, force and local celebrity she won't be able to escape the fall out and consequences for all this. We live in a consequence avoiding, no blame attaching, absolution granting world (especially for people of her exalted status) but if she did something so awful so as to get fired this way, even the world we live in won't spare her if all this comes out.
By the way, I don't know her nor did I have any idea that any of this was going on until I read the newspaper. This is a fascinating spectacle to the extent of seeing the high and mighty fall (up until a few days ago she was even honored by the Bloch's or one of their Foundations for being a fine person) and a respected University protect itself.
I am a DO. I applaud the actions of the board. Pletz was diluting the profession in order to line her pockets.
ReplyDeleteGee....her daughter was a substandard premed student. The daughter got into the school in question. My hopes are that she learned/applied the strict principles that "MOM" bought-pressured her way into.
I never could understand a lawyer being the CEO/President of a DO school.
I may start to donate again now that the Profession is back on track with education.
What a bunch of nonsense, I am an alumni of this school and though in the past they have made some really wrongful decisions in firing of presidents they have done the right thing here. The decision was UNANIMOUS. And she must have had some really shady deals or been taking the school funds or using school money for personal expense. They gave her ample opportunity to address the committee and she could have on Friday when the board met. I say the star takes their head out of their own rear end and out of Pletz's rear end and realize the school has been there and served KC long before Pletz ever came and it will continue to do so long after she leaves. Objective journalism is dead !!
ReplyDeleteObjective journalism here is being in part supplied to us by Yael T Abouhalkah.
ReplyDeletedumbass bitches MUST go! Buh bye!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat does all this have to do with the screwy relationship with Missouri Southern? The two top guys at MSSU are spending all their time raising money for Karen Pletz' private university. Some might wonder why the state is paying them hundreds of grand to carry water for the private Med School. Where is the payoff, and for whom? The MSSU pres could well be hungering for a paycheck more the size of hers, and be willing to do nearly anything for it.
ReplyDeleteSee those wrinkles around Pletz's eye? Yuck. She isn't just a scandalous and conniving person but she is doggone unattractive. Okay, so it isn't polite to flame a defenseless person anonymously on message boards.... but whatever, this lady has been taking the hard earned money of students and doctors for years now and investing it everywhere except the student's education. She was one of the highest paid med school presidents in the country, got her name in the paper all over the place for giving away other peoples money, and had her monkey boy Douggie Dowzell running around intimidating poor students into not speaking up for their wrongs.... so, I hope that everything comes out and the school counter sues for everything she stole from them.
ReplyDeleteUntil we hear everything, which is unlikely in today's society, all we can do is speculate. And, I'm with those who believe something much bigger than a bad, unpopular or perhaps even innovative (whose to say?) idea is what got her fired. She seems to have done a lot for the school, yet the board took action to fire her. Something VERY big is obviously underfoot. I've met former President Pletz before and she's impressive - impelling even. I've also met Doug Dalzell but doubt he would remember because he was trashed out of his mind at a local establishment - heard he might have owned it.
ReplyDeleteKaren (thank goodness I can call her Karen now instead of President Pletz as she demands at KCUMB) is so extravagant, no one would believe it. Just what she spends on flowers for graduation or White Coating is atrocious. Karen was all about herself - just look at what she did in KC. Do you honestly think she did this to promote KCUMB? I feel sorry for the CFO b/c I know he's so budget-conscious and I'm sure she pitched one of her many fits just to get what she wanted. Some of the KCUMB med students - who paid over $40k/yr for tuition - got very upset when they saw the maintenance crew washing her Lexus outside. So, she had them hide the car inside one of the buildings to wash it instead. The 'queen bee' has been dethroned and I will await the court's decision, but if the board was unanimous, something big must be hidden underneath it all.
ReplyDeletefirst off, the topic of MD/DO school designation, never even made it to the Board Committee on the day Pletz was fired; the issues were totally fiduciary.
ReplyDeletesecondly, I am an alumnus of the school as well as a former employee of Pletz.
She is self serving, not dedicated to the school or the profession, dictatorial in her leadership and has caused the departure of numerous excellent physicians and scientists over the years (check that one out KC star).
Further KC star, do a little further checking of your facts regarding board passage rates and donations prior to Pletz's arrival. You will find the information she provided you is inaccurate, but you obviously did not bother to do your jobs as reporters...or was this listed on the editorial page....could have sworn it was on the business page!
I am anxiously awaiting the lawsuit which she states will be filed (and to this date has not been) so that those influenced by the smoke and mirrors will appreciate what those of us on the inside have known for years.
I worked at KCUMB for 7 years during the nightmare reign of Karen Pletz.
ReplyDeleteThe board did not do their job because she hand picked them to be "yes" men for her.
KCUMB was Pletz's sugar daddy. KCUMB was used by her to the extent that she considered the school her own personal checking account and the board was her personal rubber stamp.
She finally got what she should have gotten along time ago.
She is a power hungry snake that will smile to your face and stab you in the back.
Don't worry Karen, you can always get a job as a lying slimy used-car salesman. You would fit right in.
Pretty scary behavior isn't it? I remember when Dr. Rudolph Bremen, once the president of the university, was highly criticized because he drove an old Rolls Royce and renovated the old Mercy Hospital to be administration. I bet they miss him now.
