I don't sweat national news on this blog but last night's speech by Obama impacts all of Kansas City and the rest of the world.
For all the talk about Hope and Change it was disappointing to hear Obama double down in Afghanistan. The Obama talk last night was nothing more than a continuation and endorsement of the Bush Doctrine. To his credit, unlike Sarah Palin the President probably knows what that is . . . But, in the end, it's really only recipe for more failure.
Afghanistan is known as the "graveyard of empires" and only the most arrogant supporters of the military-industrial complex would dare to dream that U.S. intervention is going to change tribal traditions that have been in place for 2000 years.
To be fair, this move is exactly what Obama promised during his campaign. Still, spending obscene amounts of cash and committing to the almost certain sacrifice of the lives of U.S. Troops doesn't seem like such a good plan as we STILL struggle with a global recession. But there really is no arguing with the strained logic that would claim premature victory in Iraq and argue the merits of nation building while continuing to invoke Sept. 11th. The commitment to endless war by Obama makes it abundantly clear that the fate of this nation and the world is determined by forces devoutly committed to profit and unconcerned with sacrificing precious resources and lives to the giant sausage grinder which feeds so many greedy appetites.

ReplyDeleteWhile I have nothing but contempt for this arrogant idiot, he actually did the right thing. I thought his speech was an arrogant display of campaign rhetoric but in the end what he said made sense. We were attacked from there with the consent and assistence from the "Taliban". They must die. We could not leave yet. We will be there a long time. Yes it sucks but it has to be.

ReplyDeletewow - out and out plagerism.
ReplyDeletenot a first here, but usually you disguise it better.
soldiers are hitmen - hired murderers all.
ReplyDeleteHis long overdue, overly dramatic decision is *CLEARLY* an endorsement of the Bush doctrine. There is simply no other way to interpret it.
ReplyDeleteGreat post T.
ReplyDelete"soldiers are hitmen - hired murderers all." ???/!!
ReplyDeleteFUCK YOU STAIGHT TO HELL. Get your ass out into Columbia and fight the drug lords. The ones who supply your mind numbing dope. Fuck you. Catch the next freighter to Somalia, you fucked up piece of shit, and get you some pirates. Stick a stick of dynamite up your tight ass. Just for fun.
How old are you? 18? Freshman? You are showing your naivete and your absolutes. Fuck you.

ReplyDeleteThanks for answering that comment. I felt that stupidity deserved some kind of response but I didn't want to stoop to do it. Thanks for making it clear that kind of absolute thinking is ignorant.
Less than 1% of our nation's people step up to the plate and join the armed services. We are dependant upon these volunteers for our safety. Without our fellow soldiers, sailors, marines, coast guards and reservists standing sentry on the wall we are ample targets for every extremist wanting to take out just one American. I heartily join anon10:10:00 AM and soundly say to Anon 08:59:00 AM FUCK YOU
ReplyDeleteNow that I am in my 50s, I favor a draft ...
ReplyDeleteI got off track. President Obama is making the right call. I hate it, but he is making the right call. Afghan President Karzai can not be trusted. He needed to hear that we will not be there forever holding up his corrupt government and his drug lord brother. Pakistan can not be kept out of the mix as they are harboring terrorists. There is not a hard exit strategy. Tony, September 11th did happen. I hope that we have put into place some circuit breakers. Halliburton should be off the gravy train now that "no Bid" contracts have been eliminated. How many private contractors are currently in Afghanistan?
