Over the Summer I noted that somebody was going to go to jail over the Citadel Plaza hot mess. And now it looks like that's closer to happening . . .

Meanwhile . . . The place still looks like the lunar surface and most people agree that something needs to be done with the wasteland in the middle of Kansas City.

Sure, if something needs to be done, let a developer come forward and do it. Maybe even give them a little bit of TIF money. But not the way they had it set up where they were going to pony up $20 million--in cash--up front, in hopes that it would be developed. That was insane.

ReplyDeleteGet a clue! TIF works on the premise that projects create their own subsidy by creating new property taxes and economic activity taxes. No project, no increased taxes, no subsidy. The only time there is upfront money is when the project is bonded by either the TIF Commission or the City. Either learn the tools and the language or don't bother us with your ignorance.
It makes no sense that they'll let the monkey go and blame the monkey wrench...

ReplyDeleteTerry Riley says that everything is right on track. If you want to be part of the Citadel Project "Bring me a business plan" Make sure you hand it to him right side up or things will get screwed up.
