The race for Kansas City Mayor keeps getting bigger . . .
A VERY RELIABLE AND AWESOME TKC TIPSTER RECENTLY NOTED THAT FORMER COUNCIL DUDE JIM ROWLAND COULD BE RUNNING FOR MAYOR SOON!!!Any why not? Everybody else is . . . Thing is, Rowland actually has a pretty sweet gig at the Sports Authority and very well-informed TKC Tipsters are also saying there's no way he would dare leave the steady paycheck for a crowded, uncertain and iffy run at Mayor of this cowtown.
But let's consider . . .
Rowland is a tall white guy and Kansas City loves to elect tall white guys.
He has a stronghold in the 4th District . . . That's where all of the money is and so far these political gatekeepers don't seem too impressed with the quality of candidates currently looking for cash. 4th District is the heart of Kansas City and determines the politics for the rest of this town . . . IF Rowland has held on to his street cred in this part of the City THEN maybe he's a lot more formidable of an opponent than most people think.
He's a member of the Kay Barnes Council that doesn't have the legacy of corruption from The Cleaver days and avoids the antipathy for the current Council. Like it or not, the Barnes Days were better for Kansas City and filled with far more hope than what exists now . . . IF Rowland could capitalize on that sentiment then he'll be seen less as a Stadium Tax proponent or another agent of developers and more like a neighborhood advocate - Which is how he started his foray into politics.
And once again . . . If he gets in, this REALLY opens up the race and takes away a lot of advantages for other folks. I don't think it's that far fetched that Rowland is in . . . And I know for a fact that race for KC Mayor is getting more crowded every day.
Nope. The title should have been "Jim Rowland will the next mayor of KC"

ReplyDeleteI'm getting a bad feeling about all of these candidates. This is what happened the last time. There were so many candidates in the primary that the only to who emerged, Funk and Brooks, were the ones with the largest blocks of group-think voters. Funk had the anybody not already connected to city hall bunch and Brooks had the black vote and name recognition.

ReplyDeletelet them all run. tony you need to have a list of all the possible candidates on the right side of all the postings so we can keep track. the ballot just for mayor will be 2 or 3 pages long at this rate.
ReplyDeleteRowland is a great person and he could lead this city to new heights. He also has all the tools to deal with KC's finances and our image problem. If he decides to run as Mayor he will win without question.

ReplyDeleteRowland may be the right one; that remains to be seen at this time. However he has the skills, and certainly the experience. Better than electing the Funky man again that's for sure. At least Rowland's wife isn't crazy and she is smart enough to stay out of city hall.
