MAST HOSTILE TAKEOVER BLOW UP!!!

KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS report seeing Louie Wright and Local 42 pals taking a meeting with the City Manager today . . . They might have been talking about the contents of this post . . . I have recently obtained a copy of an INCENDIARY E-MAIL that's circulating to every politico in City Hall right now.

There are lots of charges in the e-mail and what I know is that the folks who wrote this up wouldn't have included this rather scintillating dirt if they didn't have the paper work to back it up . . . This is just one of many signs that responsible City Council people should stall the Hostile MAST Takeover and VOTE NO until some real planning can take place.

This e-mail has been everywhere today . . . I just thought TKC readers might want to take a look at it given that it takes apart this upcoming MAST deal point by point. Check it:

""This is the world's most boring consolidation process" -Troy Schulte

Statement made by Mr. Schulte to MAST Board in August 2009. He further revealed that MAST Board members were not given any ongoing information regarding their Public Trust's demise. I do not feel so alone in being locked out of public issues regarding a public entity. Information has been hard coming but here is a bit of what I pulled together. I plan to have a fuller account out in the mail by the first of the week with supporting documentation generated using the handy "Freedom of Information Act"

My mailing list is limited to area philanthropic funders, social service agencies, and their board members. I view this as a public service.

COST OF TAKEOVER

  • Local 42's Louie Wright has told MAST employees that he will get "time served" for the purpose of KCMO pensions included in the take over language.

  • "Time served" shoved onto the current KCMO Pension Fund for 350 new employees.

  • MAST employees will not contribute to start up pension. They will also keep their 401Ks.

  • Cost of this publicly funded pension buy-in is estimated at $17 Mil to $21 Mil.

  • Letter from KCMO Pension Board dated November, 2009 declares this a "bad idea"

  • Cost analysis of the health benefits that KCMO will incur yearly are estimated to be $700,000 ABOVE the costs that MAST currently pays.

    John Sharp

  • 12 years as Director of MAST.

  • Involved in lawsuit filed in 2002, settled for 2.85 MIL

  • Involved in lawsuit Don Gibson V Mast. Settled for $300,000 ( MAST was prepared to go to court until Sharp informed them that he would be a unfriendly witness)

  • Court costs and legal fees for above cases not included.

  • John Sharp fired from his post as Executive Director of MAST on October 4, 2003.

  • MAST was left with a depleted Reserve Fund due to poor billing practises and legal entanglements.

  • MAST was forced to ask KCMO for a $2 Million line of credit to meet payroll and other expenses.

  • As Director of MAST Sharp was against pensions, MAST has in place 401Ks. Since this take over discussion Sharp has reversed his objections.

In Search Of A Solid Funding Stream

  • Jeff Yates, KCMO Finance Director told MAST that he believes he can access funds from the Regional Health Levy to pay for added expenses of this alleged "money saver" merger.

  • Yates believes that the extra burden of health benefits and the upfront buy-in to the KCMO pension fund for MAST staff is a reasonable expenditure from the indigent care monies.

  • Currently 100% of the city's subsidies comes from the health levy. No general revenues are used.

  • So do we rob Peter to pay Paul for something we do not need?

  • Troy Schulte has stated that KCMO can save immediately $189,000 on the MAST telecommunication cost. Highly unlikely.

  • Health Levy comes up for renewal in 2012

    Stuff That Has No Category

  • The shelved MAST Strategic Plan to expand into Independence. Contact Mayor Don Reimel for the details.

  • In 2005 MAST Board members were pressured to recognize Local 42 as the bargaining agent BEFORE Union 34 members voted. MAST Board members refused to be bullied

  • In 2005 MAST employee's union Local 34 had a room at MAST. An incident took place where Local 34 members were held against their will in the room by Local 42 members. Something to do with a "friendly" takeover vote.....Police were called and a report taken. After the vote 9 new members of Local 42 were sanctioned.

  • Blue Ribbon Panel was a mirage. It's members were not unbiased. It was heavily weighted in the direction of a take over.

  • Current ordinance submitted by John Sharp is a load of crap."

    2. Stop the take over of MAST>

City Council should be ashamed of its cooperation with this costly effort.

Fire Department and Union need to stay out of our ambulance service. This is a power grab that will cost this city money and lives.

Good reporting. Keep it up Tony

    3. Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives, where all the politico's in K.C. are on the take.

      Or

    4. council following Sharp's lead? wow where will this lead them? Maybe to a soccer field in SKC? Yeah, he's leader material. Just like Russ Johnson. Power broker written all over him!
Kansas City's deep pockets are watching Louie Wright's Local 42 power grab. Just how much can Wright do for the meek council members who sell out their constituents? NOT ENOUGH TO STOP THE CIVIC PUSH BACK. No campaign dollars for those who vote yes tomorrow.

    5. Schulte must do more research when he looks at MAST numbers on the financials. There are more categories lumped together and he only makes himself look more stupid when he reports wrong information.

    6. Schulte's first get to know you meeting he said "MAST is great and has a lot of great things such as some of our processes and software that we could use at the city or for other departments . Yes, he praised MAST then continued to tell MAST employees that we would be joining the CITY'S DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILY. Why would this need to happen when MAST is so good already. STOP! Leave MAST alone.

    7. Since the facts and the common sense are all against it, I can conclude on this -- 12-0 vote tomorrow in the council in favor of it.

Anytime something is presented with the facts, the clowncil does its best to make a mockery of common sense.

    8. candles, incense, a tent in the woods and....WTF!!!9/9/09, 10:51 PM

MAST is a goner. Louie Wright has promised funk'ed that he will help get rid of Wayne Cauthen fast. In return Wright gets to name the interim city manager. And that would be, could it be, why yes Mr. Troy Schulte has his hand up.
This is all about power not saving money or streamlining admin. Power. Wright likes to see just how high the wimps will jump. He knows that they will jump, just likes betting with the boys just how high.
This is a campaign/ leadership issue.

    10. Face facts. If it has a union smell it is a dead fish. Rots from the head down...

    11. who elected the douchbag wright? oh, wait, his elections are ALWAYS rigged but no one who knows has the balls to say or do anything! Big fucking losers! he won by 85 votes! that is pathetic and so is he.

    12. Please vote no on all ordinances, amendments regarding MAST. Please vote no. Honestly, how hard is that? Let the process play out. Let there be time to set up a structure. If the petitioners gather enough signatures, do not set in place roadblocks to true citizen concern.

    13. Sharp knows who butters his bread and that's all that's important to him. Check out his campaign finance filings.
