It just occurred to me that the Mammygate verdict and so much other news around this town represent significant losses for Kansas City and maybe a signal of an overall downward trend.
Think about it . . .
In part, thanks to a failure to live up to minority hiring goals The Downtown Renaissance in Kansas City never really happened or at least it came with kidnapping, rape and stabbings. In the aftermath of this expensive failure, the trajectory of this cowtown isn't hard to calculate.
August is coming up and that's historically a time when Kansas City's streets light up with gunfire and carnage . . . Already we're exceeding all recent homicide stats.
With the Mayor leading the way . . . The vast majority of elected officials face a tremendous amount of animosity and disapproval from the public. The first crop of Internet politicos have failed in Kansas City and there's no soon forthcoming vast technological change beyond the ever evolving Internet that will provide another venue for politicos to mislead the populace.
Kansas City Schools are too busy eating feasts off Government (read: Taxpayer) cash to seriously think about changing their direction.
And let's not forget The Star is enjoying the short amount of time until even more advertisers figure out that it doesn't make sense to give them money.
Look around, look around and all that's apparent is that this nation is taking a giant leap backwards . . . And Kansas City is at the forefront of the horrible momentum.
I'm taking particular interest in a sign that's currently on public display in this Nation because it seems like a relic from the days before the Civil Rights Movement but it's actually a look at "Here and Now" in current American popular culture.
A quick glimpse at the vast majority of racist Internet comments on any popular web presence will CLEARLY demonstrate that the culture is moving backwards . . . Or at least anonymity reflects horribly on how people really feel.

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of things about this city worth cheering for Tony. You just don't see them because you are caught up in your own negativity. Kansas City is making forward progress on TIF reform and we would have approved light rail if it wasn't for people like you and C.A.V.E (Citizens Against Virtually Everything). There's only decline in your own head and if you think about it even the fact that you are able to spew your own bullshit is progress from just 10 years ago. I don't want to tell you to cheer up because I don't care about you. But don't try and bring other people down with your bullshit.

ReplyDeletewell I love it here. We have a great community centered around my neighborhood and parish. I dont apologize for not sending my child to a private school though. I work hard to know my neighbors and do most business within a few miles or less. Love your neighborhood or leave it.

Sure, things economically have turned down, what with the recession and we have a knucklehead for a Mayor we didn't realize was a knucklehead but neither the Mayor nor this situation will last forever. I'm not a pollyanna, by any means, but we have good things going, too, as Westport Local Cam said, above. Chill. We'll get beyond this and we'll do some good things. Did you forget we now have an African-American President for the first time ever?? And you're saying we haven't made any progress?
