This sucks . . . A brand new and potentially awesome TKC TIPSTER just told me that ElJay's is closing its doors.
This was a FANTASTIC RIVER MARKET COFFEE SHOP!!!
Even better it was run by a great mother/daughter team and was one of the most friendly places I've been to in a long time.
Big loss for downtown coffee lovers and other folks who enjoyed the fare.
Another local biz bites the dust . . . Bad news abounds despite the fact that recession is supposed to be coming to an end.
Went there Sunday morning and it was closed up and dark.

ReplyDeleteYeah I dropped by this sad situation yesterday morning. I'm really curious to know what happened, it would seem like that place should make a killing given the number of people who come down every weekend for the farmer's market. I mean there are only like 2 coffee shops in the area and thousands of caffeine addicted people. I don't get it.
ReplyDeletePeople have been talking about this on Twitter for several days (before it closed). If you care about instant info, Twitter is still the best way to get it, despite all the obvious and tired criticisms it gets.
ReplyDeleteI was there Saturday for the last day in business. Lots of people were lining up to get their last orders in. The daughter was there, it was very sad.
ReplyDeleteShe didn't want to close, but she's the minority partner and couldn't get the others sold on holding out longer. Evidently they only *just barely* couldn't stay afloat.
Sad thing is, if it would have helped they probably could have raised prices 25 or 50 cents and none of their loyal customers would have cared, their product was that good. I really wish they'd have tried raising prices a little over giving up.
