The news of extravagant spending from the Kansas City Missouri School District is spreading through Kansas City quickly.
It's a major disappointment for silly folks who had (unfounded) hope that Dr. John Covington could turn things around.
The story preview last night by Russ Ptacek and a bit of TKC EXCLUSIVE detail reveal:
A LUXURY WEEKEND OF FEASTING IN THE OZARKS FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD AND ADMINISTRATORS AT THE KANSAS CITY MISSOURI SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE MIDST OF TEACHER LAYOFFS AND SCHOOL CLOSINGS SHOWS LITTLE HOPE FOR CHANGE!!!
Nothing but more of the same for the KCMSD as this town is forced to either choke down their consistent fail or finally call for a State Takeover.
thats why the school district is in such shape.

ReplyDeleteTony did you repost this story because it was so expertly rebuffed in your original blog message?

First off - why is this news?
Companies do off site training all the time for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, its less distracting for attendees to be off site. Additionally, it builds morale and comraderie - something I think even YOU would admit is sadly lacking in KCMSD facilities. Add reason A to reason B and you, theoretically come up with better results from your team members attending the training.
It ain't called professional development for notin ya know.
Lastly, and certainly not least (especially here) the state provides PD (professional development) funds to EACH AND EVERY DISTRICT IN THE STATE so they can conduct seminars EXACTLY LIKE THIS for teachers and administrators - on site or off!!!
As for Russ Ptacek - he went for the low hanging fruit and the easy stab at the already much maligned KCMSD.
Its a non-story. He (Ptacek) and you (Tony) need to wise up when it comes to sensationalizing "stories" such as this. (Is it sweeps week???)
I'll be willing to bet if the Independence district or the Center district did the same thing, it'd be a non-news event. But since KCMSD did it, its all cloak and dagger, evil KCMSD is (once again) mis-spending taxpayer dollars.
But God forbid Ptacek should show footage of an attendee at this conference that benefits from this seminar and transfers the material to their classroom and or building, thusly benefitting a KCMSD student.
Oh, but that ain't news now is it.
Ptacek and you need to sit down and get the FACTS straight. But if that happend, neither one of you would have a freakin story, and we can't have FACT get in the way of a good story now can we.
Geezus - get it freakin straight - both of ya.

What is wrong with us having a little fun in Arkie ville. Why do you think we had to lay off those teachers so we would have a little money for fun this year, Get off our backs we have the childrens interest at heart,
ReplyDeleteYou aren't going to give this up are you Tony? Let me break some news to you - this wasn't a luxury event. It was 3 days of 10 hours of work and really crappy food. The only luxury was having a maid make the bed every day.
ReplyDeleteYou have destroyed what little credibility you had left by telling this silly non story. Do you honestly expect teachers in ANY district to not have training?
Oh and by the way, teachers from all over the state, including the KC area, were at that same resort last week. Where's that story, you crack reporter.
It's horrible to see what is obviously school district people defending this gross mismanagement, negligence and malfeasance. Face it, all of Kansas City is ashamed of the mockery of Kansas City Schools. They are a horrible part of what brings this city down.
ReplyDeleteI know teachers and instructors--both--who attended this retreat and it was, in fact, no luxury event. If you want to be indignant about the KCMO School District, you have plenty of reasons but this is not one of them. You're off base here, Tony. Attack them for something else, not this. To repeat--it was no luxury event. Oh, and they had "homework" to do each evening, that was due next day, too.
ReplyDeleteWhats up with these posts? Where's the improvements to our schools in Kansas City? Hell, better yet, show us the basic needs being met in our school system-with our tax dollars. Are those needs somehow being met in the Ozarks? If so, maybe you people defending this non luxury retreat might be willing to explain to the rest of us why the poorest of KC citizens have to pool our own money and efforts together in order to maintain our public schools? Where the hell is our tax money going? As soon as we see some improvements here at home--thats when we'll feel confident about you wandering off to the Ozarks on our dime! Stupid people making stupid assertions about homework at night-what the hell? While you whiners are busy having your beds made by maids in the morning, we're here in KC working our asses off to pay for basic services-services in the form of volunteer work thats supposed to be provided to us with our tax dollars! If you don't like what you read on this blog, or what you hear or see on the news then get off your ass and do something about it right here in Kansas City. Hire our teachers back and get rid of the idiots who arranged this non luxury retreat for a bunch of over paid, under worked school board administrators.
ReplyDeleteSigned: One pissed off tax paying volunteer shelling out his own money, and donating his own time to give kids a better school building to attend classes in, while reading about the poor people suffering from homework and maid service.
Time to divvy up the KC school district among all the adjoining districts and let them manage it. Then things will improve and costs would go down!
