Kansas City's Great Newspaper Crash

Defend Print Media all you want . . . The fact is that they're firing people and closing up shop at a rate far worse than most other American Industries that aren't relying on pointless devotion to newsprint.

Here's the latest on the subject from all over the KC Internets:

  • Bottom Line Communications: KC Star Eliminating Bureaus

  • Nick Sloan: Wyandotte County is ground zero for the struggles of print.

  • Suburban Weeklies Slay Major Daily - at least for now . . . A good insight but FAR TOO MUCH Optimism.

  • Not even sweet thoughts can save jobs in dead tree media: Hallmark Cards will drop Hallmark Magazine, lay off 10 in Kansas City

  • Don't forget to mark your calenders as The Star is about to be delisted . . . They might try to spin it as good news but it's just another indication that people with cash don't see the point throwing good money away on news thats almost always on the Internets first.

    2. It's too bad... well the economy sucks all around. I had cancelled the paper months ago since I spend so much time online and watching cable news... and happened to catch one in a restaurant and I read it. I think I miss it. Alot.

I forgot that you actually CAN get journalism and not just opinion. I hope they don't have to bleed too much more. WE all get weaker when that happens, including the rest of us.
