Hope for Citadel Plaza Change

From The Star: Long-delayed Citadel Plaza project has city wondering if it needs a new developer . . . And I guess questions were bound to arise after a commitment to spend even more cash on a place that's already wasted millions and faced countless delays.

  1. The Citadel Plaza developers are the perfect defintion of poverty pimps. They have accomplished nothing except to burn thru millions of dollars of taxpayer money. All in the name of helping the poor while they draw 6 figure salaries.

  2. I agree with Anon 716AM. Additionally, in these troubled economic times for Kansas City, the Council should NOT give out the extra $20 million to a project that has absolutely NO chance of getting built in today's environment. The City of Mission spent $35 million of site work for the proposed Circuit City Mall next to I35 and Johnson Drive for which they will never see the citizens money returned. The Citadel project has an even smaller chance of succeeding and alternatively will never get off the ground absent of financing and tenants (both non existent at this time).

  3. Maybe they should look to the commercial development on Blue Parkway and Elmwood. That development has been 75% empty since its construction and it gets a lot more drive by traffic. If it is a failure, the Citidel will be an even bigger failure.

  4. I am confident that in the current environment, financing will be unavailable for this project. Maybe the City Council will pour the additional $20 million down the drain but that should be about it as far as the City's exposure goes.

  5. This Terry Rileys next job. He will be the guy to keep "things" flowing with the Citadel. Well flowing and greased.
